He wasn't out there coaching for free

Firing him is probably going to cause some of your players to leave. Your recruiting for this year is going to take a dive (most likely because it usually happens). That is going to set you back again.

Crazy thing is that there are constantly new players graduting HS and transferring college players looking for a fresh start. Crazy huh?!? Some are even really good!

Hiring a new coach, any coach, isn't a set back next year. Luke hasn't "out coached" anyone in the three years he's had the job.

Your next coach won’t either
Haven’t you learned anything from aTm? Money just can’t buy some programs success. Ole piss is the twin sister to aTm. Ole Piss is aTm without the gayness. Get used to it.

I don’t like ole miss and I would suck arse Luke stay. But this....

quote:

Is Luke a nice guy? Yes. Was he head coach material? No. How do we know? Three examples (besides on the field results): 1. DK Metcalf doing the dog piss routine 2 years ago. 2. The LSU game last year. The Ole Miss players were totally out of control. 3. Elijah Moore’s dog piss routine this year. The players may have liked Matt Luke, but they didn’t respect him

is a legitimate reason to move on.

This is patently false and proves you know nothing about LSU.

No LSU fan thinks we are. But we're an all time Top 12 team that endured an outlier decade in the 90s that was terrible. We've been a good/very good/great program all other decades.

In all seriousness, Luke was 6-6, 5-7 and 4-8. He was trending downward. Another year and the stadium would have been crickets and athletic foundation donations would have dried up.

I thought Luke prolly should have gotten another year, but certainly understand why they had to do it. Bottom line is that money talks, bullshite walks. When donations get tired of the antics, it's time.

I figured after the way the egg bowl ended, it was only a matter of time.

Now do I think most ole Miss fans are dullusional? Absolutely, but the fans of almost every sec team are.

Have I blushed at some losses and other events having been an Ole Miss football fan over the past few decades? Of course. Any Ole Miss fan that says different is a liar.

But I have never been as embarrassed as I was on Thursday and through today because of what happened at the Egg Bowl. And I don’t think I’m alone. This was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Oh yeah let’s just sit on our asses and keep a coach who lost 21 games in three years and lost to our in state rivals twice and LSU three times. Not to mention the fact that he never beat Alabama, Auburn, or Texas A&M and lost multiple OOC games. Pepper in our fricking awful attendance numbers and the affect that has on the local economy and you have every reason to fire him.

He is a great man and I respect the effort he gave in his tenure. However, there is no reason to keep him for another year just to have him miss the postseason again. He’s only become worse over time and he won’t get better next year given how damn difficult our schedule is. We play Baylor, Auburn, Alabama, LSU, and Florida over our first 6 games.

It’s true, baw. There’s no real explanation as to why y’all suck so badly even after Bert left the cupboard dry.

4-8 isn’t competitive. We were 10th in the SEC in recruiting rankings. We lost every winnable toss up game on the schedule. Some due to lack of execution but a lot due to bad coaching.

Also let’s not forget Luke was part of the staff that got us in the NCAA shite storm. Fans were never going to forget that.

Auburn was going to fire Gus until he pulled an iron bowl win out of his arse so don’t come at us with out of touch crap.

Absolutely, I would have been embarrassed not because of the play but that the team celebrated it after the penalty with giving him the belt and then to even my disbelief, nobody on the coaching staff addresses the kid.

I do feel like luke was building to the future but his ceiling was limited because of the donation issue. The egg bowl embarrassed the big boosters on national TV and it was just the latest in a string of undisciplined play.

Overall Luke is a nice guy and set whoever is coming in up for future success. But he was too much of a players coach. Opposite of the way Ed O was when he was there.

It had to be done after the egg bowl. Before that game I thought he got another year with the coordinators to see what he could do, especially with all those freshman.

Now the question comes down to....is ole Miss ready to play big boy football again but without the off the field BS? Are you willing to pay big boy salaries across the board, invest in shadow staff and spend like crazy on recruiting? If not....then we will be here again in 4-5 years.

It's not an easy job, but it can be what MSU was under Mullen and what ole Miss was under freeze if they are willing to spend the money like I said. Most years you are going to finish 4th in the division at beat, but once or twice a decade you could finish 2nd. 7-9 wins consistently is not out of the realm of being unrealistic.

But to do the above, your other sports are going to suffer. Football needs the money football brings in as much as possible. It is what it is.

I was more embarrassed we paid/will pay him so handsomely to be objectively terrible. If DK doesn’t catch that pass against Kentucky in 2017 he never gets to .500 in a season. The next coach will at least not look befuddled every game.

Y'all had two former head coaches as coordinators. Was Luke responsible for all of the coaching and discipline? Some think Rich Rod is the heir apparent. If bad coaching is the reason OM was so bad, why even consider someone who was a part of the disaster? Emotions are running really high right now among the fans. You better hope the administration is not running on emotion.

RR can go too and if we hire an offensive minded guy I wouldn’t be surprised if he left or was let go anyway. If we settle for him as HC we should’ve just kept Luke

Exactly college kids are dumb stop the presses. The party decks, mascots, and basically anything related to football was far more embarrassing than two players acting stupid.
