THAT tells you the difference between the two programs

Nah... That tells you the difference of a guy who quit trying to fight his players and realizes that he had no business darkening the doorstep of an offensive meeting room.

He has become a great head coach because his deffiencies were glaring and he patched them with some great hirings.

Competitive everywhere but the score board

After taking over as interim head coach of the Rebels in 2017, Luke never won more than 6 games in a season. He leaves with an overall record of 15-21. Those wins came against programs with a combined winning percentage of .379.

Luke's record in Southeastern Conference games stood at 6-18. The team's SEC wins under Luke's watch came against the likes of Vanderbilt (2017), Kentucky (2017), Mississippi State (2017), Arkansas (2018), Arkansas (2019) and Vanderbilt (2019).

I don't blame them. Luke may have been a nice guy but he was a bad coach.

We’ve had up years and down years. I think it’s hilarious that a fan of LSU wouldn’t recognize that LSU has also had up and down years and it’s recent successes are just that-recent.

When was the last time LSU didn’t make a bowl game?

Get off your fricking high horse, jackass.

Nobody is afraid of Ole Miss. you couldn’t even win the West when you were cheating your asses off.

But here’s the deal. Let’s say you strike gold on this hire. Let’s say your next coach wins the SEC. How long you think you can keep him? THAT’S the biggest difference between LSU and Ole Miss. we can keep a coach if we strike gold (evenSaban regrets leaving LSU).

No need to acknowledge this dipshit. He's obviously trolling. The Ole Miss adminstration showed they had some stones today and made the move everyone knew they needed to make. Christmas came early.

This is the problem. The rest of the SEC thinks OM should be a 6-6 team every year. Beat Vandy and win one of Ark and State and lose to everyone else. That is not the expectation. Until you get that out of your head you will not understand OM. 6-6 is not good enough. 4-4 in the SEC most years is the expectation. 6-6,5-7,4-8 is not good enough. Not even close.

This is all you pretty much have ever been. It is who you are. You are Mississippi. You and State are meant to suck. You are meant to be just good enough to pad the strength of schedule for LSU, Alabama and Auburn and nothing more. This is the natural order of things. You, State, Arkansas and aTm are meant to win your OOC games and lose to the big three. It doesn’t matter if you beat each other, we big 3 don’t care which one of our livestock beats the other. You are the grass beneath our feet. Always been that way. Always will no matter who you hire as a coach. Know your role and STTDB.

Well if one Ole Miss fan said it then he speaks for all of us. Especially me.

Keep a close eye on Matt Luke’s career and trajectory the next couple years. When he’s floundering as Troy or South Alabama’s offensive line coach in 2024 this will all make sense.

I never said Luke was a “great coach”. He’s not. My only point was that he took over a dumpster fire (you guys got hit with recruiting restrictions and bowl bans). He kept it together through that and had (for the situation) respectable seasons.

Now this year, when your team is young (because of the sanctions) you fire the guy because of a “bad season”. It was a bad season, but there were glimmers of good in it.

Firing him is probably going to cause some of your players to leave. Your recruiting for this year is going to take a dive (most likely because it usually happens). That is going to set you back again.

Instead, the smart thing would have been to give him another year and let these young players get better and get a few full recruiting classes under you.

You do realize he said EXACTLY that in an interview recently right?

The smart thing is to fire his shitty arse and hire a better coach. You obviously aren’t going to change your mind so no worries. Good luck in ATL.

You can’t tell an Ole Pisser Mississippian anything. Just let them think they can succeed one day. They will always be feed for the big three to feast.

I hope it works out for y’all. It’s not good for any of us when the SEC is down.

In all seriousness, Luke was 6-6, 5-7 and 4-8. He was trending downward. Another year and the stadium would have been crickets and athletic foundation donations would have dried up.

Is Luke a nice guy? Yes.

Was he head coach material? No.

How do we know? Three examples (besides on the field results):

1. DK Metcalf doing the dog piss routine 2 years ago.

2. The LSU game last year. The Ole Miss players were totally out of control.

3. Elijah Moore’s dog piss routine this year.

The players may have liked Matt Luke, but they didn’t respect him.
