Message Posted by Crimson Legend Has there ever been a good nickname for UGA? I can't think of one.

Well the football team is embracing the fact that Georgia started off as a prison colony.

The coonasses I know are very proud to be called coonasses. I love my coonass friends and would never think of trying to insult them.

I think "Gumps" is a genius nickname. I actually embrace it. Forrest was damned awesome.

I think my favorite one in recent history about Auburn was calling them the "Cam Newtons" in 2010.

They hated it because all they kept saying was that is wasn't a one-man team and that he was just part of it.

In retrospect, looking at Chizik's record without him, it turned out to be 100% true. Even today, it is sure to get a rise out of them.

I like the one they had befor Saban arrived. "Parole Tide". Might still apply one day.

That pissed me off b/c it was true. Glad Saban doesn't put up with that shite.

I am half coonass and I agree. I just think something relevant to the fanbase would be better. I don't take being called a coonass an insult btw.

That's the problem with ribbing the LSU fanbase. Most of the things regular people are ashamed of, (drunkeness, eating weird foods, unintelligible speech, illiteracy), LSU fans seem to be proud of.

I get it, but sitting at home on the front pitch sipping tea sounds a lot better than fighting in a war.

Obviously a difference of perspective. A&M does and always has taken a lot of pride in our military history, and when taken into the context of the era it originated from you have the macho tough guy school and the school in Austin whose men all hid behind their momma's skirts.

Thing about corndogs is only messageboard people understand it. Everyone else just gets confused by it. It's funny on messageboards though, I rather like it
well, despite posting here, I'm not enough of a messageboard guy to get it.

What's it supposed to mean, and why does it insult me as a Tiger fan? Because of our tailgating or something?

Serious, no clue here

Not proud of, but it definitely represents a known stereotype, which is what digs on your opposing team are all about. Corndogs mean nothing to anyone except the Nebraska CORNHUSKERS.

It was cribbed from a rant against Nebraska fans, and an Auburn fan just changed "Nebraska" to LSU. Someone was obviously playing up the "corn" theme in the original, and the Auburn fan simply didn't have enough creativity to change it to "jambalaya" or "gumbo" or "file" or "crawfish" or "sugar cane" or "okra" or "cajun seasoning" or "shrimp boil" or "fried catfish" or "sauce picante" or ANYTHING relevant to what we do or who we are.

I'm not terribly bothered by it, other than its complete lack of creativity. AND as uncreative as it is, the rest of the SEC have just glommed onto it. As somebody said, there is LOTS of material to use against Louisiana and LSU. A good bit of it could be funny. Corndogs just doesn't fit that bill.

(ETA: Or "boudin" or "andouille" or "dirty rice" or "beignets" or "Popeye's Fried Chicken" or "bourbon" or "turducen" or "amandine" or "seafood bisque" or "etoufee" or "hushpuppies" or "King Cake" or "remoulade" or "mirliton" or............)

As a Bama fan, I actually like Gumps. I think it is a pretty good one, not some obvious take off of an established nickname.

I have never understood why anyone thinks UAT is a cut down.

As for other fan bases and the nicknames I don't like...

AU- boogs
LSU-LSwho
UF-Gaytors (that one is pretty grade school)
UT- I like all of them, b/c frick Tennessee that's why.
