re: Rumor - about J. Showers
Posted by BigAggie06 on 2/27/13 at 8:04 am
For those that didn't see the Rant thread ... Showers officially to UTEP
LINK
Really surprised he didn't end up at Baylor or Tech, I wonder if it had anything to do with the players already on campus.
ETA: Interestingly enough, with his going to UTEP and being eligible next year he will have a chance to play in Kyle as a starter.
Wish him the best, a good kid and Aggie by all accounts.

can't get an ag tag because when I signed up I didn't know what the hell they were and the email my texags account is linked to isn't my neo account.
Ummm ... you have never needed to register with a neo account to get an Ag Tag ... I know this from experience because my neo account has never been used in association with TexAgs and I have been a member for 8 years

9. Griffin needs to get his grades up.
I will 9.5 just because we have known about Griffin for months and we are still stacked at WR in this class. But having him sign would have been the icing on the cake.

tmc94 thanks for clarifying. I read "red shirted last year" and immediately thought 2011.
I didn't realize he didn't play this year thus why I mentioned that he punted in the Idaho game (which we played in 2011)

ags, since you are recruiting both. who has the most potential. nick harvey or speedy noil
I don't think that there is a real answer since we are recruiting Harvey as a CB and Noil as a WR.
They are both studs. Size and speed seems to be similar as are their rankings.

Kaser redshirted last season. He's a RS-Sophomore, just like Bertolet.
Are you certain? He punted in the Idaho game according to Aggie Athletics and he is classified as a Sophomore not a Freshman (like Bertolet is)

Nothing, but he is 2 years into his eligibility. This will give us the ability to 1) introduce competition without using a scholly 2) hedge against injury 3) prep a new punter for 2 years down the road when Kaser is gone so we aren't breaking in a fish.
As long as there is no scholarship being used on him the more power to him.

Also, Inside Texas put out a story a couple of weeks ago saying we had a big lead for Paris, but I think they're totally full of shite, since Gerry and the 24/7 guys have pretty much said he's LSU's to lose.
Yeah I would agree ... they are totally full of shite. I haven't heard anything but LSU for Paris.
Brown is supposedly A&M and LSU but I could see that changing if Texas just had a kick arse year.
As for this ...

We seem to be looking at guys who aren't highly rated at the moment but could see a huge bump in time like Jyaz Jones and Derrick Dixon.

I think we get Adams, but after that I have no idea. You'd think DB would be the one position that we could actually recruit well in, given Akina's pedigree. But I'm pretty pessimistic at this point.
I am leaning OU on that one but you never know.

So out of the top ten players in the state. A&M got more or less than years past?
I think we probably got one or two more "Top 10" than we normally do (especially if you are considering Derrick Griffin who would have signed with us if we thought he could qualify).
The big thing is WHO we got.
RSJ - For a long time considered the #1 player in state, dropped some at the end but still highly coveted.
Derrick Griffin - Stud WR, never gave Texas the time of day, will go JUCO but is still saying he is working towards being an Aggie some day.
DL - A position that Texas has dominated at in the state for several years, they were blanked on. We have 6 from in the state and 3 of them are studs by any measure.
QB - They signed Swoopes who is a project at best, was dropped from the #1 Dual Threat to an Athlete based upon his shitty performance this year. We signed Kohl Stewart (who had some big time offers and would have had more but he was expected to sign with the MLB ... projected top 10 draft pick but wants to go to college) and Kenny Hill who is a national top 10 dual threat guy and already being projected as our next starter by a lot of people after JFF leaves.
A lot of these guys may not be state top 10 (I mean ... there is a limited number of spots in that group) but almost every one could have gone to Texas if they wanted and in prior years, probably most would have.

Ok ... who is Johnson that you guys are mentioning? I haven't heard the name mentioned from anyone.
Also, I am hearing the same as tmc94 as far as numbers, I was under the impression that was why we weren't taking a commit from Freeman right now. The dude is plenty talented.

You won't see many of our kids that have "offers" from Texas because they are notorious for only offering if they know you will commit. But the best player in the state (Ricky Seals-Jones) was originally committed to Texas and signed with A&M.
Same with the best rush DE in the state Daeshon Hall.
A bunch of our kids had legit interest from Mack Brown but never gave them a look so never got an offer.

Very close to Dylan Sumner-Gardner and Edwin Freeman as well.

We need to tell kids if you visit Oregon in January you no longer have a scholarhsip offer at A&M.
No doubt ... the weirdest fricking thing is it is like they are all struck mute when they get back.
Last year Bralon is all over twitter and giving interviews, etc. Goes to Oregon and no one can get into contact with him to see where his head is at.
Prevot wasn't as "out there" as Bralon was but supposedly people were in contact with him before he went up, he comes back and wont take calls and won't return text.

Griffin's twitter is confusing to read.
First he stated he was going JUCO, then he said he would not be going JUCO :banghead:  :banghead:
Either way, he seems to be very excited about A&M and working to get in.
He also just said he will be on the news tonight at 5:00 wonder what that is about.
