Why can't a booster do this?

Because pay for play is not supposed to happen and letting boosters have direct access is a bad idea.

and he knows who to talk to about fixing it before it's too late.

What can be fixed?

The only correction I can see is the transfer portal (mandate 1 yr sit out for undergrads).

Nothing can be done about NIL. We knew what it would be. If the players own their NIL, then they own their NIL. The ncaa nor divisions cant impede on that.

But they aren't boosters.

They are marketing reps.

I mean, nick Saban is the epicenter of my pain and suffering as an lsu alum, but I can’t condemn the guy for being pissed at what NIL is doing to college sports.

At least someone is trying to fight for college sports and its existence.

If the federal government passes laws to put limits or restrictions on NIL then eventually the Supreme Court will get involved.

Congress could grant the NCAA an antitrust exemption. I don’t know if there is the political will for it, though.

I don't think an antitrust exemption would strip the players ownership of their name, likeness, and image.

Even the NFL doesn't do that and they have an antitrust exemption.

People here give Nick Saban constant grief for obvious reasons, but I think he legitimately does use his position to try and improve the state of college football.

…so long as it allows Alabama to keep its advantages over all the other programs.

C’mon, y’all aren’t that naive or blinded by your bias enough that you can’t see it. You may choose not to acknowledge it here, but you see it.

Saban will go to the mat for something if it helps his program, but as soon as it doesn’t, he drops it. There’s no “college football” about it. And I don’t necessarily begrudge him for that; it’s what he’s paid to do. But don’t paint him to be some magnanimous savior trying to white knight for the sport. He’s not, and y’all sound ridiculous trying to peddle that angle.

Understand there is going to be a discussion in Washington maybe this week about college sports and NIL. Let’s see, border out of control, many countries threatening nuclear attack, Biden trying to get rid of my gasoline car, natural gas stove, water heater, furnace, my dishwasher, proposing new regulations to put natural gas fired power plants out of business same time they want me to buy a battery car. Bunch of other stuff going on. Yes, our congressman ain’t got nothing better to do than worry about college sports.

“Thou shall not make Alabama play LSU every year”

55-27 vs LSwho. Bama should play LSwho twice a year!

Nick Saban (D-AL) to travel to DC to lobby lawmakers for NIL regulation

He's like every NFL owner wanting a salary cap. Every NASCAR owner wanting common templates.

They can't regulate themselves - because they know, at the end of the day, winning is all that matters and money is no object.

So they look for someone else to regulate them, in the hopes that "caps" will be put on the spending. Then they'll cheat around the caps, in the hope that it'll cost less and they'll still have an advantage.

That's literally how the NCAA started to begin with.

NCAA abdicated its role in all of this, NIL and transfer portal. Mark Emmert asleep at the wheel the whole term.
