And I hate this - because of all the slack jawed comments here from certain loud mouths ? I'd really like Tenner to win.

Good Grief ... the Tenner that beat Kentucky just isn't here today.

From Ohio. I think we're done here.

Yep. Honestly - I do not blame you.
A&M supports their clubs. They pay for the facilities. And look - I think Buzz Williams is a very good coach.
But if he wants to go ? Let him go. And get another.
Every hire is a risk - but you have to take the risk. I think Kentucky might have found lightning in a bottle. Is there a name out there that can be that for A&M ?

There are very, very few coaches that were as good as Nolan Richardson. He was excellent.

Kentucky has several great agricultural products.
Weed. As good as you'll smoke north of Central America and East of Hawaii. Also Tobacco. We grow a good stalk.
Bourbon, Whiskey, whatever you want to call it. We make it pretty well. Takes plenty of corn. Which, as it turns out, the Ohio Valley does quite well.

Gents ... Kentucky beat them. On a neutral court.
Yes - your team can beat them too.

It was gay, back in the day, when Kentucky fans would brag on the friggin' Cheerleader Team - because the Football Team sucked so bad.
It's no less gay now. Glad Kentucky isn't doing it. Go Tigahs ?

You should hang a banner for Livvy Dunne. Something about "she flipped around, made a commercial or two, and now is banging the reincarnation of Rollie Fingers".
It would be an odd banner, but why not ? Put a QR code on it so people can use the iPhone to scan an immediate link to buy some tight sweats.

And I can see that. Because you can sell me on the idea that - other than football, be good at one other sport.
You can sell me on the idea that its good to be good at one sport in each season - Fall, Winter, Spring.
You can't sell me that anybody gives a damn about Women's Rowing or Men's Bass Fishing or a bunch of other stuff. Not enough to justify a dime away from either football - or the idea of being good at two sports - or one sport each season.

Not from me. Because I'm happy you're happy. Keep him, fire him - don't care. As long as he's never coaching Kentucky again ? I'm happy.

The money is all about College Football. End of story.
Now - if UCONN wants to continue to be the Death Star of Women's Hoops ? I say let them. Don't spend a dime to get in the way.
Because this is where I think Barnhart at Kentucky doesn't have a clue - and many other ADs don't either. They want to "win all the sports".
It's a new world, now. A zero-sum game, at least with your own budget. Where do you want to spend it ? Every dollar thrown at Gymnastics is a dollar less for the one sport that matters. Or two - for those schools lucky enough to be positive revenue for Mens Hoops.

I was happy when Arkansas took him, because Kentucky couldn't afford to fire him. I've seen nothing to change my mind.
Now ? Can I interest you in a really, really strong Baptist AD ? Maybe a football coach ?

It's always an Arky, Tenner, or LSU poster. Just about ever single time.

Sure, some teams will rise up and be the cool kid for 5, maybe 10 years, but over the next 50-100 years, you're still Kentucky and you'll still be the king of basketball in this conference.
Dunno'. The Cats have always had rivals. Nolan had Arkansas as good or better for a bit. Billy Donovan had it locked up for a couple years. Dale Brown was always formidable. 'Bama had runs, Georgia had The Tubb, 'Tenner supports their basketball, you get it.
But I've never seen Kentucky legit second tier, without a coaching change. That's what got Tubby run. That's where we are now. Can Pope bring them back ? I like the early indications.
This conference is getting really, really damn tough. I think Kentucky has to up their game to keep up. I'm very serious. Tradition only gets you so far. As Churchill said, tradition is just rum, sodomy, and the lash.

Historically ? Yes, I am confident in my statement that Kentucky has been the best men's basketball program in the SEC. By a long shot.
Today ? They're behind 'Bama, Auburn, Tenner, and Florida. Not just because of this year - but because that's been the trend for the last four years.
Pope has work to do, just to get Kentucky into the mix of those top programs. And nobody is going to strangle-hold this conference in the near future.

For the record - Barnhardt DID NOT fire him. Cal left, for what he considered a better offer. As is his right.
As the kids say, lets not get it twisted.

Seriously, and I'm not doing the reverse on this, I expect Tenner to win this. They're better. Just don't jack 30 threes and you'll be fine.

Kentucky had Shaeden Sharpe - who rode the roster his Freshman year. Never played, but got drafted.
How did that make Kentucky a better program ? It didn't.

Fair enough. Chris Beard was who I wanted Kentucky to hire. Right up there with Pearl.
