Believe in the power of government! I too believe there's no problem a group of politicians can't solve!

quote:

DESTIN, Fla. (AP) — Alabama’s Nick Saban is among a contingent of coaches and administrators from the Southeastern Conference scheduled to meet with lawmakers in Washington next week to make a case for a federal assistance in regulating how college athletes can earn money off their fame.

The SEC confirmed the trip to Capitol Hill on Thursday as it was winding down spring meetings on the Florida Gulf Coast.

Commissioner Greg Sankey will lead a group that is expected to include university presidents, athletic directors and lobbyists.

“There’s a lot that goes on between our campuses and D.C. And so this is an opportunity to focus on athletics and some of the pressures that we’re facing. To communicate that, given the realities in college athletics, Congress is the place that can fix the issues we have,” Sankey said.

The SEC is scheduled to host a reception for lawmakers and congressional staffers on Wednesday night before visiting individually with representatives and senators from the conference’s footprint on Thursday.

What a fricking narcisist!

Little Nicky wants his voice to be heard loud and clear. Of course he's the voice of CFB lol. DC should have zero input into college athletics. Govern our country, balance the budget, fix the crime problem, and STAY OUT of shite you have no knowledge about.

Nicky is losing his focus, and that is why Bama is on the decline...

Little Nicky liked it better when he could just throw Dodge Chargers and Mercedes at recruits. Now it’s fair game for all and he’s being a lil bitch

I think he simply knows things aren't heading in the right direction with NIL, and he knows who to talk to about fixing it before it's too late.

People here give Nick Saban constant grief for obvious reasons, but I think he legitimately does use his position to try and improve the state of college football.

He may not always be right, and you may sometimes disagree with his opinions, but I honestly believe he tries to do what he feels is best for the sport and by extension, the players. He also probably knows a whole lot more about the real problems (behind the scenes) than we ever will.

I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up on an NCAA committee or as a conference liaison once he hangs up his headset.

If the federal government passes laws to put limits or restrictions on NIL then eventually the Supreme Court will get involved. I hate NIL, but why exactly can't a person sign an NIL contract for any amount of money, by anybody, and at any time? Why can't a booster do this? And what's to stop somebody using NIL as a recruiting tool?

I hate it, but the genie is out of the bottle.

Meh, he does to improve the state of he and his program. Which is fine because looking out for your own self-interests is something we all do. But trying to act like he’s simply looking out for everyone else is where he loses me. Everything he does is rooted in maintaining his own competitive advantage and unfettered control

I think most of us here hate NIL for what it's become, which is never what it was intended to be.

We all like to complain about it, and then turn around and dismiss someone who's actually trying to do something about it, just because of petty rivalries. It's not always about "getting what's mine" for some of these guys.

I don't believe it's hyperbolic to say that college football will not exist in any sort of amateur capacity if we keep heading down this road.

So of course I'm saying all of this as a Nick Saban fan, but I also put forward that we should think about where we're headed as a sport, about who among us has the power to change it, and just simply support the man for doing the work.

Hello Congress,

My name is Nick Saban. For years I've had the biggest budget to pay college kids illegally to come play football at Alabama. I always had the best kids because I paid the most, and I beat everyone because I had the best players. Well now paying players is legal and everyone is doing it. The playing field isnt completely slanted towards me anymore. We need to put a hold on this before I sink into the last years of my career coaching 3 loss teams every year.

Thank you,

Nick Saban

I guess you'd have a point if he hadn't signed a number one class since NIL came along.

Unfortunately your corndog butthurt prevents you from realizing he's signed two #1 classes, with the other being a massive drop to #2 behind A&M. Yeah, NIL has really hurt Saban and 'Bama.
