It's Alabama that's taking the fun out of college football. Their previous CBS SEC games were won by margins of 59 and 38. This game was closer but no more entertaining to watch. What's good for the Tide blunts viewership for college games.

If this game were a sitcom they'd kill it. I mean 3.7 is pathetic. Surprised CBS execs still think this game means something. Oh, for the days when a competent Abc sports ran by roone arledge carried the best games. CBS hasn't got a damn clue.

Grats.
It’s the truth though. LSU goes into each year thinking the goal is to beat Alabama and you see teams that should be undefeated going into Bama dropping games to State and Troy.
People aren’t showing up to see LSU beat Syracuse or even Auburn because they only care about Alabama.
This focus on Alabama and this endless pursuit to beat them since 21-0 got Les fired, has caused them to miss out on recruits, and has completely flattened the fanbase.
The culture had to change and I think it’s starting now. The program and fanbase needed a reset.

It shouldn’t be the prime time game. It doesn’t even need to be a focal point of either teams’ seasons. I’m so over Alabama. Just needs to be treated like another game so the program and fanbase can recover

Year in and year out you usually see Bama's name throughout the most watched games. Not every single game obviously, but Bama draws.

Did any other network/game show high/higher ratings?
I think most just expected Bama to win big because LSU hired an idiot.
Turns out....Bama is not as good as they think they are. But...they are still really good. Plus...the REC ....errr....X factor of playing at home.

Nope. Means less gumps could afford tv's this year

We were couple of missed passes from taking it to the wire. Nobody beats Trailer Owners like LSU, 9 times since 2000. DWI....

Bama games have absolutely zero drama to them.
They have 99% of teams beat before they get off the bus.

I think there were probably less viewers in part because of the status/perception of each of these teams coming into the game. LSU is decent but probably not as good as some years in the past, and Bama is ostensibly a really good team again, so a lot of people probably didn't tune in thinking it wouldn't be a very competitive game.
I still don't mind this game being in primetime because each year it is one of the most physical games and you get to see some of the best players in the country go at it. Despite the fact that this game has come to be controlled by Bama over the last 7 years, some of the matchups have been classics: 2011, 2012, 2014 were all really good games. Even these past two games were hard fought and competitive, not as if Bama just blew the doors off of LSU.
All this being said I agree that it might be cool to find another game to put in the primetime slot at least every other year. Maybe find some good cross-division games that don't happen too often, like UGA-LSU next year, AU or Bama vs FLA whenever those teams play again, provided FLA is decent.

No body wants to watch a mediocre LSU team or another boring Bama machine team. Bama fatigue is real outside of Bamaland.

It's not on LSU.
Alabama is a boring television brand. Alabama doesn't excite anyone outside of gumpland and some sidewalkers scattered across the southeast.
