Fake news. They're awful.
That said, I have no doubt that Saban likes Lane and Saban also thought it best for him not to follow him at Bama, for all parties involved.
It was a big task. Huge spotlight and required a more mature hand to manage the transition. Lane could have absolutely crushed it in Tuscaloosa, but he also could have absolutely been crushed at the first wave of hate after any perceived struggle.

There's a reason CAA pushed ESPN to do the Kiffin documentary that made it seem like he had settled down and become a different person.

I love how you’re posting this like it’s some big win for Alabama.
As an LSU fan, I want to thank Bama for being stupid and passing on Kiffin.

Kiffin may be a liability but he’s an infinitely better coach than DeBoer. The boosters at Alabama will look back on this in several years and wish that they could’ve had that same opportunity again.
Well Kiffin's skins on the wall and trophy case proves it. With those two conference USA championships and all.
That's much better than Deboer winning the PAC-12, making it to the playoff and playing for a national championship. And then of course making it to the playoff again in his second year at Alabama.
Deboer needs to step down a few notches and go win the Sunbelt or some shite like that. Maybe then we can all mention him in the same sentence as Lane Kiffin.

What are you talking about Saban having no legacy at LSU? All LSU has/is now is because of Saban..it dang sure ain’t because of Archer or Curly…If Saban would not have went to Baton Rouge LSU would be Auburn without the one Cam Newton national championship…
Read the post again.
Saban doesn't have a legacy to protect at LSU. He's two decades removed from that program.
Saban is now to LSU what Bryant was to Kentucky. A footnote in the history of Alabama football.

Saban also wanted Houston Nutt to replace him at LSU.
His track record for picking successors isn’t the greatest…unless, he knew Houston Nutt wouldn’t surpass his legacy at LSU but Lane might at Alabama.
Then, he is pretty good.

Same story is running on yahoo, on3, etc.
Everyone with a functional brain already knew Saban and the current Alabama leadership blackballed Kiffin from ever becoming head coach at Alabama.
Kiffin burns bridges. It is who he is. The LSU melt when it happens will be historic.
Boy are yall gonna wish Saban would have let Bama hire him after these next few season of more failure by Deboer.

It was all rumors obviously but like a day after the job came open, people from Alabama shut down the “Kiffin to Bama” noise.
I remember hearing it was because he fricked a big booster’s wife, daughter or both when he was the OC there
I heard a similar rumor but it was a wife of someone in the athletic department not a booster....

Houston Nutt would have probably done great at LSU. He had 8 or more wins in 7 of his 10 seasons at Arkansas. Houston Nutt won the western division 3 times in 10 seasons at Arkansas. Arkansas did not do that again after he left, not even Petrino. Nutt was responsible for 3 of Arkansas 4 division titles. Houston Nutt was a better choice than Lesticle Miles.
Les’ record at Okie State: 28-21, 16-16. Zero division or conference titles, best finish was third in the Big 12 South.
Nutt’s record at Arkansas 75-48, 42-38. Three SEC west titles.
Nutt was a better choice than Miles.

There is no way you can prove this statement out.
Maybe Kiffin finally goes on to bigger and better things but so far he has
- coached 14 years for with a winning percentage of .690
- gone to 8 bowl games of no importance outside the 2021 Sugar Bowl where he got crushed by Dave Aranda and Baylor
- Had one playoff appearance that he did not show up for.
DeBoer
- coached six years with a .780 winning percentage
- Made a national title appearance and made the playoffs again last year
- Earned AP, Home Depot, and all sorts of other coach of the year awards
Kiffin was drinking his way through Tuscaloosa and Saban wanted to fire the guy before he bolted (again).

It has always been my understanding he slept with a booster’s wife and another boosters daughter. That was during his Joey Freshwater “Dude, Where’s My Car?” phase.

Yes, you are an emotional vagina even by LSU standards.
