I forgot Kiffin was trying to leave Ole Miss in 2024 too. Thanks for reminding me.
Yeah, his plan all along was to leave Ole Miss. But he wanted to look good, so he needed to prove that Ole Miss wasn’t good enough to win in the playoffs first.
2024 was the perfect year. Our best roster in history lost 3 games (never mind at least one of those was directly his fault). But he couldn’t get the Bama job so he was stuck.
No one expected Ole Miss in the playoffs last year, especially after Simmons went down. Chambliss + some insane close game luck prevented him from riding off into the sunset as the good guy.

Be your stuck with no cussing DeBust who averages 4 losses at Alabama

If Verge and LSU allow Finebaum back on campus I’ll be shocked.
They should ban any media member who has ever said anything bad about LSU or Kiffin. Then they can turn the completely empty press box into a VIP suite for the private equity investors.

Lucky you. You never get to have him as a coach and now you always get to face him on the opposite sideline. You should be so pleased.

Saban is now to LSU what Bryant was to Kentucky. A footnote in the history of Alabama football.
Didn’t know the Bear won a championship at Kentucky. Learn something new everyday.

A few things about this story.
Under the assumption that it's true, consider this:
* Saban has a history of suggesting the coach that follow him not be a great one. At LSU, he openly recommended Houston Nutt. Let that sink in.
* Kiffin, a year after this story, had accomplished something a lot bigger than he had previously, and his radioactivity had decreased a ton by the end of last year. You had multiple big programs trying to get him.
* Without concern for his legacy (unlike Bama), Saban recommended Kiffin to LSU and LSU to Kiffin in 2025.
* By the end of 2025, Deboer had gone through a couple of periods of, "he's not the guy for Alabama" already. The playoff appearance muted that for a little while. But, the idea that Bama would pass on Lane in its current state should the job become available is laughable.

Bryant won the Sagarin national championship at Kentucky in 1950. That was Kentucky’s first national title in football. It also happened to be their last national title in football.

Pregaming 30+ hours before your game is certainly a choice. I know LSU is only used to playing in 2-3 big games per year and mighty Ole Miss is certainly one of those games, but you need to slow down young grasshopper.

Lane was trying to find a top-tier program to go to, because he was stuck at Ole Miss.
LSU was unavailable at the time so he wanted the Bama job.
How is any of this surprising?

I believe the things Finebaum has done and said over the last month have gone far beyond journalism.
He called Verge a puppet.
He’s called Kiffin a narcissist.
He’s called Landry an idiot
He’s called LSU a rogue program.
He’s the only “journalist” with that size of platform to use those terms. It’s without a doubt done in conjunction with the SEC in order to damage the LSU brand.
Yes, LSU, its coaches and athletes should have zero communication with Paul Finebaum.
