The Heber valley is exploding and less than 1 hour from SLC and Provo.

In retirement, think that’s key. Also, Park City has that Intermountain hospital that’s like 15 mins from Heber/Midway. Also, tons of horse properties, golf, access to nature, etc in Heber Valley. And, new Smiths grocery store.

Lots of good advice/insights.

We moved out here in 2017 and absolutely love the lifestyle.

A couple of points some have not raised yet.

SLC airport is connected to pretty much everywhere being a Delta hub. So, in retirement, you can pretty much get anywhere direct and family can come visit you easily.

State infrastructure is overall fantastic.

Mormon thing is a non-issue but they do keep away the rift raft that has headed to CO. Friends call it the Mormon discount in a positive way.

ONLY issue is the cost of living. This place has been discovered since Covid. Housing is up 2x-3x over last several years. It’s becoming a problem.

As far as cities/towns, highly suggest Heber City and Midway for retirement.

It takes only a few mins to fill out form and approval is near instantaneous. Think $10.

For the current/former residents…if you could escape for the few hot months, would it change your opinions? I’m talking summer house somewhere else or extended stay in cooler climate.

What you hear about it being a transient city is true. It seems like some people are only here for a cup of coffee. My wife and I have had many friends who have left and at times it feels like you’re always having to start over socially

Are you at the empty nest phase of life or the child rearing phase of life? Curious if friends are met through kids activities or other.

From my experience, transient can be a positive in that new arrivals aren’t trying to break into established social circles.

Anyone ever lived in Las Vegas?

Specifically, Summerlin?

Seems like hot 2 months out of the year but still in 60s at night during those 2 months. Low humidity year-round.

Multiple TPC golf courses.

World class entertainment, restaurants, etc on LV Strip.

Lots of direct flights via Southwest.

Low property taxes compared to states like Texas.

Any experiences?

None. Even Polaris sucks. Slightly better drinks but food inedible and way too crowded.

Suggest going with one nearest your gate.

Pretty sure Jaime was played by the actor that portrayed Diego in Blow
Do people really name their boys Liam instead of William? Stupid Gen Zers and/or millennials thinking this British name sounds cool instead of realizing it’s a nickname like Ted or Bob. Dummies.

re: Best and Worst Airports in US

Been to 100+. Obviously can’t remember all. But, some that standout in various ways:

Most improved international - Frankfurt: used to need 2+ hrs to connect due to lack of gates, multiple security check points, etc. Now, extremely efficient.

Most improved domestic - LGA: simply amazing compared to the old LGA. Honorable mention to Memphis for improved dining options, tech enhanced seats with cordless phone chargers, etc.

Biggest PITA to get to gate - JFK: takes forever to navigate through neighborhoods, security always long, third world terminals,

Biggest PITA to get thru immigration - tie between O’Hare and Dulles…both suck incredibly bad.

Worst first impression of city upon exiting - Houston Hobby: razor wire on apartment fences and barred doors sure make a statement.

Airport I would hate to get stuck in - Copenhagen…miserable. Also KC (but it’s been years)…that setup of just a few gates for each security checkpoint sucked and was extremely limiting for dining/drinking options.

Airport I wouldn’t mind getting stuck in - Houston Intercontinental: tons of great dining options.

Some that aren’t as bad as people say - CDG. It’s far from the city center, but, security always a breeze and good dining options. Athens also not as bad as reputation.

Worst international - tie between Hamburg and Milan. Hamburg security is most painful anywhere and Milan is just downright confusing in an Italian way. Marseilles sucks too…do not understand how an airport in Provence has no wine bar or decent food.

Best international - Heathrow…yes Heathrow. So efficient if you know how to navigate. Honorable mentions to Amsterdam and San Jose/Cabo.

Best domestic - tough one but probably Phoenix Sky Harbor. Proximity to city center, ease of security, ease of immigration, ease of passenger pickup, dining options, etc. Honorable mention to Salt Lake City.

Worst domestic - EASILY DFW. In addition to the numerous other comments, I’ve never been to an airport that so frequently goes to ground stops WELL before storms approach, then waits out the storm, and then has monumental delays after storm passes. It’s insane.

It’s almost as though the earths atmosphere goes thru cycles ?????

Acre is awesome. Very different than Flora Farms. Probably best restaurant in Los Cabos.
RonFNSwanson provided some good suggestions.

For a 4 day trip, you could spend a couple of days in the SLC/PC area and then a couple of days in Moab (shorter drive than Jackson and more southwest feeling which it sounds like your wife prefers).

SLC does have some great restaurants. Only add-on I would suggest is catching an outdoor concert at Red Butte Garden, if in spring, near Univ of Utah campus. Also, Big Cottonwoods Canyon offers some spectacular scenery and hikes/walks. And, could drive over Guardmans Pass into Park City, IF in spring…otherwise still too much snow.

You honestly do not need to leave the Venetian. Or, restaurant row between the Venetian and Palazzo.

BUT, if want a change of scenario, you could walk to the Fountainebleu. Grab a drink at the Bleu Bar and dinner at KYU.

Scenery is what you’d expect at Fountainebleu Las Vegas.

Was in Evanston today…to pick up wine. Spent less than 5 mins in Evanston before heading back to Park City.

Agree with assessment.
