Kiffin nearly accomplished something no other LSU coach has done, getting LSU kicked out of the SEC before ever coaching a game.

LSU coach Lane Kiffin, the Ole Miss coach at the time, turned down Auburn, then he wanted ESPN’s Paul Finebaum to endorse him for the Alabama job. The problem, Finebaum said Thursday, was former Alabama coach Nick Saban, who was helping find his replacement after he retired in 2024, blocked Kiffin from getting the job.
That Alabama job is soooo OVERRATED, I think that douche of a HC Kalen was Alabama's 3rd choice.

Coaches don't want to deal with the Psyco tree killing Alabama fanbase anymore....The Portal kicked Alabama square in the nuts, no more hording players

Paul Finebaum is a complete Alabama Tool

It was all rumors obviously but like a day after the job came open, people from Alabama shut down the “Kiffin to Bama” noise.

That's a discussion board sports myth. LSU fans for instance, to this day, still believe Saban left Baton Rouge because he fricked Candy Edwards. It's weird.

Kiffin doesn't coach at Alabama, because the University decision makers and more importantly, Nick Saban didn't want him there.

Nick Saban wasn't going to leave his legacy to the likes of Lane Kiffin. That's why LSU has him. Saban has no legacy to protect at LSU.

I have a lot of respect for Bama. And UGA. And Texas. And to a lesser extent other traditional “powers” in our league.

I never imagined a day/time where LSU - and its coach - would be the 24/7 top story in the SEC with all the other powers/storylines in this league.

It’s really amazing and entertaining to watch how other fan bases handle it. I’m loving it.

Bama is no sense fan base, LSU allows for shenanigans and that is what Kiffin brings.

Better fit, but I don't see him last more than 3-4 years tbh

By the end of the season, the LSU fanbase will have reconcile with the very real possibility that Nick Saban lobbied for Kiffin to get the LSU job, not because he has some love or affection for the LSU program, as so many LSU fans are wont to believe. But instead he did it because he absolutely hates LSU.

Nick Saban laughed off LSU’s mascot and fans burning him and a wooden cross on the LSU campus.

He was not as understanding about all the LSU fans talking badly about Miss Terri and all the rumors they created and spread about him having an affair. He didn’t like them ridiculing her. Neither did he appreciate them ridiculing and spreading rumors about his daughter. He really didn’t like the rumor they created about Lane sleeping with her.

Saban was largely responsible for Lane getting the LSU job. But he didn’t do it for the reasons LSU fans think.

All I know are these facts:

1. Kiffin is a good coach
2. Kiffin is a HORRIBLE cultural fit for Alabama

He's a much better fit at LSU than Alabama, personality-wise.

Smart move. They shouldn't have went with DeBoer but Kiffin would have brought a shi! show circus.

Yeah the story isn’t “Kiffin tried to get the Bama Job.” … well, duh, of course he did, this isn’t news…. Anyone would have in the circumstances.

The story beneath the story is that Bama (with possible help/push from Saban)…. Chose wrong and paid for it for 5-10 years.

This is a great debate imo. He's had the same clunkers as DeBoer. Deboer is very good at gameplanning & getting up for the big one like Lane. Deboer has a better record vs. Kirby. Ole Miss is obviously a tier below Saban Death Star Bama & a motivated LSU though.

I think Lane did have an edge as the "Portal King" but schools have caught up now that the portal is less new & shiny. Other than that, I'm not sure the gulf is real...theyre both good coaches trying to make the leap to great

What are you talking about Saban having no legacy at LSU? All LSU has/is now is because of Saban..it dang sure ain’t because of Archer or Curly…If Saban would not have went to Baton Rouge LSU would be Auburn without the one Cam Newton national championship…
