You see what's happening with money stolen by favre and southern miss
you better comply with state policy or it will get ugly
they are still considered state employees even though we all know coaches are under a different set of rules
it was an honest mistake and I doubt Kelly is sitting in his office pissed about something like this when he still gets the same amount of money and who knows down the line he may get a raise
you also have to keep in mind Kelly donated $1 million for LSU facilities

You're taking losing the West and missing the playoffs really hard.

He got paid ahead of schedule. He's not giving anything back, just not getting as much in the future.

In overpayment after a 10 win season? Could you imagine how awkward that conversation would be with your head coach? I think most SEC teams would’ve just made it a bonus but if you did get it back it would be on the end of the contract.
If your job accidentally direct deposited $1mm to you, they would ask for it back as well. Not sure why this is controversial.

The better question is why is he taking compensation via both direct payments and an LLC? Tax structuring being done by a state employee?

He was taking direct payments and then later set up an LLC.

They made the switch but kept paying the direct payments as well.

I can only imagine the spinoff by the OP if LSU hadn't done this.

"Oh look, LSU cheating at paying their HC more than his contracted salary.... blah blah blah."

As for an awkward conversation, NOT. "Hey coach, you see this hiccup on your check? Yeah, we'll need that back in full or we can set up an allotment."

I don't know for sure if this is a troll thread, but if it is, it's deserved.

First off, the gross incompetence of the actual overpayments...
I once was overpaid for a few months, in a job I had a couple decades ago. And I have no hesitance in saying that was a chickenshit company, with a bunch of unqualified "friends of the owner and his buds" running the administrative/corporate part of it. It's a regional healthcare company that I will leave unnamed, and to this day I would steer people away from their services if I were asked.

I'd expect LSU to be much more professionally run. The impression this makes on our new first-year coach has to be "what's this bullshite?"

Now, secondly, since it's technically a state job (at some level), I don't know if they can rework the contract to add in a bonus that substantial... but I'd sure have tried to find a way. And I'd damn sure have tried to make this go away before media caught wind of it.

:36 pm to jryanw If it's a public school you kind of have to. It's the state's money and a million is a lot.

Majority of his salary doesn’t come from the school. TAF pays it.

The State of Louisiana only paid 400k of the money so why did LSU make Kelly pay back the entire 1.1million?

The state of Louisiana doesn’t pay anything towards CBK’s salary. You keep repeating this when it’s false.

There are so many dumb people in this thread and I don’t mean to point fingers but all of them appear to be bama fans.
