I went to LSU my dad went to Michigan.
I cheer for Michigan, he cheers for LSU.
Identify care who people pull for as long as they stick with them. I had a college buddy who was a Falcon's fan because his create a player on Madden got drafted and he has STUCK with them faithfully his whole life.

Bad investments? How did he lose 40M?
He didn't own 100% of Rivals. He cleared closer to $25M on that sale and his partners all made money too. He's gained about $30M+ since then.

Does getting a Masters from a school make you less of a fan than someone who got their Undergrad there or does just getting a degree from that school count?
Undergrad is who your number one fandom should be.

I don't act as if I'm more of a fan than non-alums until they act as if certain things are ok as long as the team wins. Then I'll pull the alum card as I care about the school as a whole, and it's reputation. I want to win, but not at the cost of it all like non-alums tend to be more like. It's the ones who like to spend others money when talking about "firing a coach" or something like that. It's not the NFL.
It's like a foreigner coming here to live, and telling us how we need change to be more like their old country instead of assimilating. This includes all the Yankees and west coasters moving to Texas too.

Here's the thing that I suppose I get, but not 100%. I mean you're a season ticket holder, so there is no denying you are supportive and that automatically checks the fan boxes.
I just can't figure out why.
I mean, you're not a fan of some high school team you didn't attend...right?
Did any family attend?
my whole family grew up bama fans yet none attended university. we have always rooted for them.

You don't even have to live in the state to be a fan. Just root for who you like. I mean I grew up in Arkansas but here are my favorite teams:
College football - Alabama
College Basketball - Kentucky
NFL - Patriots (Although last year it was the Broncos)
NBA - Cavaliers (But I might root for Golden State this year depending on how they do)
MLB - Cubs fan this year

What if they only went there for grad school? What about online programs?
If you went there for grad school or even online you're paying your own money on tuition to attend the university. frick ya that counts, anyone who says otherwise is an idiot

I like the bitches that "LOL I don't know who to root for when LSU plays Florida because I'm such a huge fan of both! I loved my Oregon ducks too a few years ago when they were good!!!"
Alumni or not--GTFO with that.
I became a fan of Alabama in 1989. When I decided that's where I wanted to go to college. And I did in 1990.

Wait....like I posted in another thread, what if I've been a Bama fan since I was a kid, but attended a part of the UA System (undergrad and grad) but not the Tuscaloosa campus? And the campus I attended didn't have a football team?
Help me tRant, I need to know what kind of fan I'm classified as.

You are a Tier 7 Bama fan, which is fine.
So be a fan, just don't use "we" to refer to the team.

I just hate people who try to decide for their kids what college they are going to. Let the kids decide.
My daughter would be the 5th generation girl on my wife's side to attend Alabama. She is the only girl on that side so there is a lot of pressure for her to go to Alabama and she loves it so she probably will, that said I would support her going where she wants.

I think that is the best way to handle it.

There's no unwritten rule, but being an alum does hold more weight than being any level of super-fan.
A non-alum can always walk away from the program, no questions asked.
It's the difference between some cool henna art and actual tattoos. They may look the same, but the commitment levels are not close.

I'd say it depends on when you adopt said team. If you became a Bama fan in 2008 I'd say frick you.
My OM-grad brother moved to Birmingham earlier this year so my Dad says he (my Dad) is an Alabama fan now.
