When they moved to the 8 team format finals, the NCAA wanted to make Ft. Worth what softball and baseball had with OKC and Omaha
Sucks. I want Nationals in Tuscaloosa again!

A near season full of losses and setbacks all gave way on one night of emotions.

Looking like 198+ is going to be required to really push for the national title.
Easily.
Fortunately for Bama.... they're trending up, posting season highs and peaking right now, so a a high 197 next meet to possibly advance further, and then 198 in two meets isn't unrealistic.
But more importantly, we're now deeper into the Bracket than anyone predicted, so pretty much anything they do is now just extra gravy. The season is already a success.
Hopefully a complete lack of pressure allows the Tide to just blossom.

Stolen from reddit
Alabama actually has a decent chance to better their final finish from last year so long as they avoid a second beam fiasco.
This would maintain Ashley Johnston's overall upward trajectory since taking over. (2023: 10th 2024: 8th 2025:tba) Something that seemed like fantasy just weeks ago.

So this is it. We meet our destiny.
We are now as far as the our seeding says we should go.
Florida has a lock on #1 barring a disaster, and Cal has been rock solid consistent at mid 197 for weeks. Alabama has scored well enough to beat them once. We met in Huntsville and should have beaten one of their rare low 197s.
But we're now in Coleman Coliseum. If Ashley Priess Johnston was evil genius pacing us to peak at the perfect moment, it's now or never.
Regardless of what happens, it's crystal clear we probably should have seen this rebuilding year coming. Cam Machado, Mati Waligora, Ella Burgess, Makarri Doggette and Luisa Blanco all departing at once, an entire rotation of 9.9 threats gone was always going to take a miracle to replicate anything resembling their 2nd place SECs finish in 2023 and 2024. To be frank, I can't remember losing that much talent at once, even going back to the Sarah Patterson days.
Positives to take away are Ryan Fuller and Paityn Walker emerging as 9.9 potential talents and vaunted recruit Love Birt has had to delay her debut till 2026. More importantly, those ladies represent the first class handpicked by Ashley Johnston, so next year will be the first team not majority Duckworth commits, who seem to have plateaued without Dana. In any event, next year will be loaded with experience with Lilly Hudson being the lone major loss.
Needless to say, the Johnston regime can put away a lot of the growing pains this year with a single very possible upset Sunday and taking this "last place" SEC team all the way to Texas and the National Championships. Anything beyond that is icing.

re: Vanderbilt a trap game?

No.
No. seriously, the SEC is full of trap games, but Vanderbilt is god awful 9/10 times and 10/10 times they have no home field advantage.
Just no.

TO DATE:
The best atmosphere in Bryant Denny was the 2010 Iron Bowl.
The crowd was amped to go, the build up was immense and the anger was tangible. There was hate in the air.
Everyone was standing, even the PA system was on board with "Take The Money And Run." It was as close to a European Derby feeling as I've ever felt in College Football.

NGL. If we'd kept the beatdown intact, I'd be terrified of our next ranked game.

Shade of the 2010 Florida Game. Looked like there was no team this side of Saturday that could possibly beat Alabama, much less in Bryant Denny. \

Damn, and easily the best game they've played this year. Come on Bama, just need TWO conference wins for improvement.

Volleyball swept again, but at least this time it makes sense, FSU was a ranked team.
Looks like VBall is going to be a long build, I think Soccer took Wes Hart nearly 10 years to build into anything nationally relevant.
Like Bama soccer, a non-revenue sport with pretty much 0 history or prestige to build with, and no significant attention like Gymnastics or Softball, Coach Reed is going to have a lot of time to grow the program.

Good on Soccer. Well earned draw.
#11 Texas jumps on us 2-0 early and Bama battled back and equalizes in the last 10 minutes. All in Austin too.

2007 vs Georgia would be Big Al's first ever head debut.
As you can guess, during the Mike's era, Alabama's College GameDay appearances were few and far between.
Previously, when Corso picked Bama, it would be some form of fan hat.

Is it just me or does Volleyball and Women's Basketball seem like our two sports that just refuse to reach that next level.
