Is NIL killing SEC recruiting? Not a single SEC team in the top 5.

Ohio State
Notre Dame
Texas
Penn State
Clemson
It's almost August and most teams have around 20 commits.
Not much time or room to make up a lot of ground.

Lol, 1 maybe 2 of those teams will be in the top 5 come next February.

When is the last time Alabama had 20 commits in August?
Answer that, and then we’ll continue the discussion.

SEC flips those recruits once they see how the season plays out. Most SEC teams lag behind this time of the year and then take over the top spots on signing day. Pretty typical.

Georgia, Alabama and Florida have 15 or fewer recruits. Plus, Penn State will fall off when people remember that the Big Ten is an inferior league.

Most schools will be fine and climb up. Except for Aggie and Florida those guys are fricked.

I root for parity these days. I'm a purist

Alabama and UGA both in the top 5. Alabama has the highest per player average than any team in the nation.

247 is the gold standard.

That is subjective, but let's say it's so: 247 agrees that Alabama has the highest per player average in the nation.
If, then, 247 is the gold standard as you call it (kind of a silly thing to say, but ok), and since they think Alabama has the highest per player average in the nation, then UA is killing it.

No they don’t.

Just an entire regular football season before early signing day.
So you believe Baylor, Tech and Cincinnati will hold down top 15 classes with 18+ 3 stars?

texas is paying high school kids to commit and to stop taking more visits to other schools. Money is being exchanged with high school players. This is different than what A&M did, which was to promise payment when enrolled.
High school coaches are complaining loud and clear.
Legal action forthcoming, not from NCAA or SEC, but from other universities directly suing horn collectives. The wild west will get wilder.
A&M could get hit in the crossfire, we’ll see how much truth is there to Jimbo’s statements. But the 5-7 horn collective paying high school kids will likely get taken to court. High school coaches to act as witnesses.

Why does this have to be explained every year in July? And it’s only worse now because everyone wants to blame NIL.
If you have more commits you’re going to be higher. It’s a numbers game this early.

Nah, teams like Texas, USC and OU have surged since the SEC addition, and Big 10 news. Teams like LSU, A&M, and ole miss, are going to take a step back compared to recent years. It’s just more competitive now.

Is this your first year to follow recruiting? It shows. The top 3 recruiting schools from last year, all SEC schools, are not even on the list. So much is going to change between now and December. Who knows how crazy it is going to get especially with the NIL.
The National Letter of Intent Signing Day is December 21, 2022. No football recruit is signed until at least that day. Everything until then is just a promise. Those promises can be broken by both sides. There is a whole football season to be played between now and then.
How many of those "committed" recruits will flip between now and December? How many will change their minds when their team has a shitty season? Or someone offers them a better NIL deal? Once football season starts and they can make Official Visits to games, experience the gameday atmosphere and stand on the sidelines with the current players?
OR, they get hurt playing their final season of High School football? The school rescinds the offer because they got a better player committed?
It is going to be an interesting fall.
