They've won championships with 2 different coaches, so they are at least 2-hit wonders.

We'll call them the Quiet Riot of the SEC (or perhaps Ugly Kid Joe is more fitting).

That title was considered illegitimate due to massive cheating by AU.

Florida caught lightning in a bottle twice - Spurrier and later Urban.

Spurrier revived a program that got into trouble from Charley Pell, a former bamer and Galen Hall. He also got the SEC out of the 3 yrds and a cloud of dust with his fun and gun.

Would Urban gone to UF had it not been for the ole ball coach putting them on the map?

UF is a has been.

AU also got robbed in 1983 and went undefeated in 1993 and 2004. Many teams would claim those years.

Wasn’t ‘83 another one of those AU NCAA violation teams?

I had a 16 year-old dog. It was born in 1990 and fortunately lived long enough to see all but one of Florida’s all-time SEC Titles.

I guess it really depends on the type of pet.

I think Florida could easily climb to or near the top again. There is too much talent in the state, and they have a rabid fanbase.

Their problem has been bad coaching hires, plain and simple. Even the one "good" coaching hire they had in Mullen ended up being a dud.

Bad coaching hires means inept admin, especially when the admins are meddling in the coach's decisions. They apparently don't know what they are doing with NIL. According to some of the Florida posters on here they hate the admin.

Its not some riddle as to why they have been down for most of the last 13 years.

Yes bad admin (UAA) and don’t forget the citrus industry beta bull Gator boosters!

They want these Disney coaches who massage there egos and kiss their butts at embers but don’t care about winning

All they need is the right coach there.

It remains to be seen how NIL and the Transfer Portal affect things, but (historically) once you get into the Top 15-20 programs sustained success is mostly about the HC.

And Florida has had a lot of shitty head coaches since Meyer.

This seems to be the issue though. On paper, they ought to be able to get a top notch coach. But they’ve only really had two great coaches in their entire history.

At the other top tier SEC schools, coaches find success typically despite their short comings, all because of the school they are at.

Bill Curry and Mike Dubose won SEC Titles at Alabama. Terry Bowden and Gene Chizik both had undefeated seasons at Auburn. Ed Orgeron won a National Title at LSU.

Florida had two legendary coaches and a bunch of absolute failures.

I mean 1985-2009 is the time frame I listed, but those first 5 seasons also lack any form of Championship. The real meat of the era was 1990-2008… 19 seasons.

Bama fans showing their stupidity once again. The first was in 1913. The second in 1914. 1957 was our 3rd National Championship

Here’s some more evidence.

Every SEC school’s first Top 10 finish:

1936- Alabama, LSU
1938- Tennessee, Oklahoma
1939- Texas A&M, Missouri
1940- Miss St
1941- Texas
1942- Georgia
1950- Kentucky
1952- Ole Miss
1954- Arkansas
1955- Auburn

1983- Florida

2011- South Carolina

Never- Vandy

In 1982, every then-SEC program had a Top 10 finish with the exception of Florida and Vanderbilt.

In 1989, every then-SEC program had an SEC title with the exception of Florida and Vanderbilt.

Couple this with it being 16 years since their most recent SEac title, and the five programs who’ve won titles since then all having 2 or more in that span.

I don’t think so. This was actually told to me a few years ago by an Auburn fan. He was complaining about how badly AU football has been treated over the years. He is older and a long time AU season ticket holder.
