This is 100% the reason and it’s crazy it took 4 pages for it to come up. The state was middle of the pack population wise until the growth of the sunbelt in the 70s. Now we have the third most people of any state after California and Texas. Hell, we have almost twice as many people as Georgia.

It’s not crazy once you realize how utterly moronic the ppl on this board are.

Reduced? You literally passed Auburn in number of National titles in the way back year of 2022.

Negative, if you're claiming things like retroactive Billingsley titles from over a hundred years ago then we have more than 4. You don't get to play by one set of ridiculous criteria and then deny it to us. Add 1920, 1927, and 1946 to UGA's ledger.

Thankfully we don't have to do that because we're not as pathetic as Auburn.

It’s crazy to me that the entire state of Florida could be dormant as a football power for decades…. Then have the the Top 3 programs for a a quarter century, and then basically fall back down to mediocrity (with the exception of a few seasons for FSU).

Because those players started going to Bama, Clem, OSU, UGA, etc.

Look at Saban's rosters at bama.

You need a lot of work on your definition of "one-hit wonder."

It’s been 14 years, a couple of huge buy outs and a lot of embarrassments since y’all can claim anything of any importance.

Does “anything of any importance” include winning an SEC Title and playing for a National Championship?

Which one? I’m pretty sure that one was just invented by that SID of yours in the late 1980s.

This is simply not true.

Population of SEC states in 1960:

1. Florida- 4.952 million
2. Georgia- 3.943 million
3. Tennessee- 3.567 million
4. Alabama- 3.266 million
5. Louisiana- 3.257 million
6. Kentucky- 3.038 million
7. Mississippi- 2.178 million

Florida passed Georgia to become the largest state in the Deep South sometime in the mid-1950s. By 1960 it was one of the 10 largest states in the Union.

Hang on to those old memories. That’s all AU is gonna have for a very long time. I’m sure Georgias 20 years of blasting AU out of the stadium won’t be among your favorites

UF has more titles than Auburn, or, as the public address announcer at Florida Field used to say back in the day, "orbun".

Watched Spurrier run up about 100000000 points on Auburn one year and this old Auburn fan was screaming, "Pat Dye would never embarrass us like this". Good times.

That’s just football. Texas also had 1 loss in a brutal schedule & dominated Auburn in JHS that year. We were up 20-0 at halftime and called off the dogs. Bo scored a late 4th Q TD to avoid the shutout.

The DSOR is always cyclical… it will flip over to Auburn’s favor in time. It’s been going back and forth for over 130 years.

The entire historic series has been comprised of each team going on long, sustained runs before the pendulum swinging back to the other team’s favor.

The DSOR has had 8 such periods:

1892-1919: Auburn went 13-7-1
1920-1931: Georgia went 11-0-1
1932-1939: Auburn went 6-1-1
1940-1952: Georgia went 10-1-1
1953-1965: Auburn went 11-2
1966-1982: Georgia went 10-6-1
1983-2005: Auburn went 15-7-1
2006-2023: Georgia has gone 16-3

The 8 swings of the DSOR average being 16 years in length, with the team in control winning 75%+ of the games during the period.

This current swing has lasted 18 years. It followed a period of 23 years during which Auburn was in full control.

This will swing back. It always does.

1983 was a season that saw a lot of games played between the Final Top 6 teams or so.

Yes, Texas beat Auburn… but Texas lost to Georgia whom Auburn beat in Athens.

One thing that’s clear is Miami should not have won the title. They were benefited a bowl game in their home stadium, of which they won by a single point and somehow catapulted from #5 to #1 in the polls to win the National Title.

While Auburn and Miami did not play, we had common opponents.

Miami’s one loss was to #6 Florida. They lost by 25 points which in that day and age was a gigantic blowout. Auburn beat that same Florida team by a touchdown.

Auburn and Miami also both played #25 Florida State. Auburn won by 3 points. Miami won by 1.

Miami was 4-1 against the Final AP Top 25, beating #2 Nebraska, #16 West Virginia, #20 East Carolina, and #25 Florida State.

Auburn was 6-1 against the Final AP Top 25, beating #4 Georgia, #6 Florida, #8 Michigan, #15 Alabama, #20 Tennessee, and #25 Florida State…. And if you keep going in the receiving votes, #27 Maryland.

Both Auburn and Miami had a loss against a Top 5 team. Auburn though beat four of the Final Top 15 teams compared to Miami beating one Top 15 team.

Auburn clearly played the tougher schedule and when comparing common opponents, it’s an absolute joke for Miami to have leapfrogged ahead of Auburn in the final poll.

The root of the problem is the fact Nebraska never should have been ranked so highly. Nebraska finished the season 0-1 against the Final AP Top 20.

Based on resumes, the Final Rankings should have been:

1. Auburn
2. Georgia
3. Texas
4. Florida
5. Miami
6. Nebraska

Florida beat Miami 25-3 and only had two losses because they had to play the two best teams in the country, losing to Auburn and Georgia by a combined 8 points. Florida beat #20 East Carolina by 7 and Miami beat ECU by 5. Florida beat #25 Florida State by 39, and Miami only beat FSU by 1.

Miami wasn’t worthy of being in the Top 4 yet somehow was awarded a National title. It’s laughable.

Disagree. They were an offensive juggernaut that season, averaging 52 points a game with Rozier, Fryar, Gill, Steinkuhler, and outscored their opponents by 438 points. Heck of a team.

They played an absolute cream puff of a schedule which is why they put up those numbers. They played one opponent that finished in the Top 20… and lost.

Against decent competition, they only had one single lopsided win.

#1 Miami, lost 30-31
#22 Penn State, won 44-6
#23 Oklahoma, won 28-21
#24 Oklahoma St, won 14-10

That’s not really that impressive.

Texas couldn't be #1 because they lost to Georgia.
Georgia couldn't be #1 because they lost to Auburn.
Auburn couldn't be #1 because they lost to Texas.

Therefore.. the pick was #1 Nebraska or #5 Miami.

Miami won the game. Easy choice.

Osborne should have kicked the extra point.

Why not keep going with Miami couldn’t be #1 because they lost to Florida…. Who Auburn beat.

You can’t ignore one teams loss but count the others.
