I believe it's more about superstition but that's not even a good reason after all of these years. But, the white jerseys do look a whole lot better than than the purple.

Our tradition is to wear white at home, we ask teams to wear colors as a courtesy to honor the tradition. Most say yes, Florida is always a toss up.

LSU Tigers' tradition of wearing white jerseys at home, contrary to the typical NCAA standard of dark home jerseys, began in 1958 under head coach Paul Dietzel and was brought back by DiNardo in 1995.

We wear gold purple gold at home against other Louisiana teams.

I like to shite on LSU as much as the next guy, but the whites at home is pretty cool to me. The only other team in all of football to do it permanently is the Cowboys with the dolphins, panthers, and Bucs doing it in occasional hot games.

Georgia Tech has been doing it for decades.
Many NFL teams do it now.
