That was just Spurrier. He did it to frick with us, which in hindsight was pretty funny.
The man was a genius, both on and off the field.

How old are you OP?? Because if you didn't see that one, you're out of luck.

It’s tradition, I know y’all have a couple of those, too.

Sorry, but if I started a team, I’d choose white jerseys for home.

I actually like the purple jersey. It's unique.

What a strange topic to have sand in your vagina over.

I'm a traditionalist to some extent, so white jerseys at home is good with me.
That being said, I don't mind the purple jerseys:

Our tradition is to wear white at home, we ask teams to wear colors as a courtesy to honor the tradition. Most say yes, Florida is always a toss up.

I was going to detail the history, but decided to let our new AI overlords have a crack at it. Pretty spot on, actually. AI says OP is ignant, btw.

Summary:
LSU’s tradition of wearing white jerseys at home began in 1958 under Head Coach Paul Dietzel. Because white jerseys were typically worn on the road, this bold choice became an iconic staple of the program, but one that was interrupted and negotiated several times with the NCAA.
1958: The Tradition Begins
Head Coach Paul Dietzel decided his team would wear white jerseys at home, and after the Tigers won their first national championship that same season, the look was solidified as a permanent home tradition.
1983–1994: NCAA Rule Ban
The NCAA implemented a rule requiring home teams to wear dark-colored jerseys. This forced LSU to wear purple jerseys at home for 11 seasons.
1995: The Return
New Head Coach Gerry DiNardo successfully petitioned and lobbied the NCAA to allow home teams to wear white jerseys. A caveat of this rule change required the visiting team's permission. In the rare instance a visitor denied permission (like Vanderbilt in 1995), LSU wore newly designed gold jerseys.
Late 1990s: SEC Rule Change
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) stepped in and took control of the situation, adopting a rule granting the home team sole discretion to choose their jersey color, effectively stripping visiting teams of the ability to deny LSU from wearing white.
2000–Present: Modern Adjustments
Under Head Coach Nick Saban, and subsequently carried out by Les Miles and future coaches, the team adopted a specific schedule for their jersey colors. LSU primarily wears their iconic white jerseys in Tiger Stadium for their home opener and for all SEC conference matchups. For non-conference home games, the Tigers will occasionally pivot to their purple jerseys.

I had heard that the 1983 NCAA rule was in response to an Ivy league screw up with uniforms, but that may be unfounded.

So the real story is that they had to bring the admins in to stop people from being mean?
Just like NFLSU.

Whats that got to do with the fact that your colors look like they were chosen by a drag queen?

He's probably rocking back and forth in the corner as we speak, crying and sucking his thumb.
And his boyfriend's tiny, limp dick.

Aggies wear maroon, and you are trashing someone's choice of colors?

I think the home team still has to get consent from the visitor to wear white at home. Spurrier used to refuse just because he knew it would piss us off. We usually wear the purple jerseys for one or two home games a year.
