Following Sankey's opening comments at the podium Monday at the beginning of SEC media days, multiple sources confirmed to ESPN that there have been additional conversations about the SEC considering playing entirely conference games in all sports.
Would suck if LSU no longer played in Omaha!

SEC won't be the only league to leave the NCAA. They will all do it at the same time. SEC just slapping NCAA in the face to show who is boss.

Could be a power move to gain leverage. No idea if that would happen. But its out in public now.

Omaha is basically the SEC or at least 50% of the SEC. Omaha wouldn't be the same if it weren't for the SEC. It would just be a gathering of 'the rest of the teams'. The SEC championship would be the true best in the US college baseball team...

the NCAA has been completely neutered by the courts. It will be obsolete (at least for the major conferences and major sports) within a few years.

What makes winning the college world series so great is that it's a three-act play that starts with LSU needing a big 7th inning to beat Jackson St. or a comeback victory over Little Rock before it gets it shite together and rolls through Omaha.

The conference leadership has led us down the path of over-commercialization and dilution of tradition... all in the name of tv contracts and money.
The NCAA losing power actually ended up hurting the game far more than it helped.
Sankey has some type of vision for a mini-NFL... which would be a disaster

This. Its a dangerous slope game the SEC is playing. If NCAA has any balls left, they tell the SEC to go ahead. Because all other sports beside football need the NCAA as it currently sits. Assuming no other leagues follow suit, you won't have March Madness in mens or womens basketball, no CWS in baseball or softball.

Its almost certainly a power move, a shot across the bow, so to speak. In the last 25 years, we've seen the SEC go from one of the premiere D1 conferences to the leader among college athletics. At this point, if the SEC breaks away from the NCAA, either all other power conferences will break away with us and the NCAA will crumble all at once, or it will just happen with a more gradually decline as other conferences eventually break away one by one. If the NCAA doesn't make major changes, we will likely see one of these scenarios occur within the next several years.
Its also likely that Greg Sankey and other commissioners are already having these discussions, likely in small groups for now, getting a feel of how each conference would take to the idea.

nothing more than a negotiation tactic - you begin a negotiation from the extreme position (i.e. threat of a breakaway from the NCAA) to get what you really want

Look around!! Greedy bastards every level of college sports now! From college presidents to incoming high school recruits and their " handlers" It is just the minor league for all major sports !

The only way this will have any chance of working is if the Big 10 comes with us. The SEC and he Big 10 could form a super league and everyone else would be second or third tier.

The SEC and big 10 will break away together, 20 teams each and have an NFL type structure.
There will be too many huge brands among those 40 for the NCAA to not have them participate in March Madness.
Where it will get squirley is say LSU and syracluse are the final 2 teams vying for the last at large bid in the tournament. I gotta believe the selection committee will side with the minor school vs the major school just about every time.
The above is obviously just an opinion, but I don't think it's too far off base.

The NCAA already lost their power because their leadership was asleep at the wheel.
The NCAA's only function at this point is to administer the championships in every thing other than football. By administer, I mean the media rights to the championship tourneys.
Emmert, the Presidents, AD's etc blindly held onto the amateur student athlete while raking in huge fortunes and paying coaches vast sums. Plus, it was always ludicrous to have the smaller conferences have so much say in the administration of college athletics.
But calm down, the SEC is not going to break away independently. What? You think they would lose access to compete in March Madness, etc?
