So give us your top 5 coaches in college baseball. In order.

Seasons like this are program enders

Holy overreaction

You say that as if they have been trying to develop them.

What the frick are you talking about?
quote:

True. But that year we were resurrected from the dead twice - once by Pearson and once by Tre. They did it, and they deserved to win, but from CJJ’s perspective we got very lucky that year. And for luck to balance out we’d have to lose a championship over some unfortunate plays. That hasn’t happened - yet.

Ok... So you're saying LSU might lose in Omaha in the near future? I'm not sure what you're getting at

He literally coached in the championship game before he was hired. Anyone who even somewhat watches baseball knew who he was.

I know. Do you know Michigan's head coach who coached in a championship? I bet you the majority of this board doesn't.

Probably a combination of both. A coach is almost always going to talk up his team before the season, but he also probably thought they would be much better. I bet he didn’t expect the majority of his returning pitchers to regress.

How does Jay ensure we get better talent evaluations from the portal?

There’s no way to “ensure” anything. He’ll look at what went wrong and try to do better going forward. That’s really all there is to it.
quote:

My suggestion to folks who are "just asking" when JJ is gonna get on the hot seat and under what circumstances is this. Who could LSU get as HC in 2027 or 2028 who will win 2 more NC's for us? I do not see one coach out there in baseball who could guarantee winning 2 NC's in his first 4 seasons...NOT ONE.

Jay Johnson isn’t going to get fired or be on the hot seat anytime soon. But to answer your question, no one knows. I bet more than half of this board had never even heard of Jay Johnson until he was hired.
quote:

He has been lucky. The 2023 title would have gone the other way if not for two remarkable defensive plays.

You can say stuff like this about basically every baseball national championship team. Every team that wins a championship needs a little bit of “luck” or good fortune during their run.
Comparing anyone to Nick Saban is fricking stupid.
quote:

and how it’ll likely never happen again.

That’s because it’s historically bad. It’s literally never happened before.
I don’t know much about LSU-E. Are they better or worse than 25-29 Sacramento State?

Thank you umpire
Who cares? You have to make it though an entire playoff, what happens in week 1 or 2 doesn’t really matter to me. I mean hell, half of this fan base wants LSU to quit scheduling big time home openers.

This is borderline Jay bringing in a psychiatrist to talk with this team.

A little late for that. Half of these guys will be moving out of Baton Rouge within the next two weeks.

So next year is looking really good!

Some guys get a lot better, some guys get worse (as we saw this year). Let’s hope that this group of young guys get better.

Wait do you think this is true

How do we strike so many dudes out, yet are so wildly out of control at the same time?

When you throw 95+ and have pitches with a lot of movement, it's easier to strike people out without locating, especially against lower level competition.
