Hallman was the worst. Having seen both McMahon and Hallman the correct answer is Hallman. McMahon loses but Hallman was just somehow worse.
The timing and the dynamics for BB hirings are different than FB. It is much less likely anyone is going to make a mid-year splash hire in BB. For FB, if a program doesn't make a mid-year hire, they risk tanking the next year because of the timing of the portal and recruiting. Coaches know that, too, and it gives them less leverage.

I really can't see how a Kiffin-type situation would occur in college BB. Their targets will likely need to have completed their seasons (or very close to it) for us to get any traction in negotiation.

No Stanley Roberts? Also, DeWayne Scales, Don Redden, and Howard Carter probably need to replace 3 of the guys you have.

I'd probably cut Naz Reid, Cam Thomas, and Tyrus Thomas.

In an alternate reality where he was never injured, I'd include Randy Livingston as a big PG.

I may be tempted to add Jerry Reynolds, too. That guy played multiple positions and had a nice NBA career.
Russell Erxleben is the correct answer. The Saints had a great offense but no defense in 1979. Drafting a punter - any punter - with their 1st round draft pick ranks as one of the worst front office moves of any franchise in any sport of all time. I was just a kid and knew it was a bad omen. The bottom fell out of the Saints and they became the Aints shortly after that.

Just disappointed that Trindon Holliday never got a chance at DE.

Still bothers me to this day.

C'mon man. Trindon was the best pass rusher in the history of LSU football.

If folks could pick a 50 year old Nick Saban vs. 50 year old Lane Kiffin, I'm betting the vote would be at least 80% Saban.
Lester, thanks for sharing your observations. This kind of stuff is why I like to visit. I've lived in Michigan 20 years now but I'm still a big LSU fan (and year to year only know about 2 to 3 Michigan players by name - even in the NC year). I'm grateful for folks who put in the time watching videos, maybe seeing some of the players in person, and sharing what they think, even if their analysis is not exhaustive. Often I find more useful information coming from what folks like you do and others like iPad than I do from national services (which I still read for info).
That's a good, deep OL. We have a challenging schedule next year but I guarantee those teams are looking at LSU right now and saying, "man they're going to be tough to beat."
I think of Bain from the Simpsons every time I hear Mendoza's name. LINK
Wow! That's impressive - Lane's initial thoughts and Saban's comments.

I did not see John Williams or Anthony Wilson. Those were 2 key guys on that team, along with the late Don Redden. That was great season - my junior year at LSU.

The deal-making that is part of the NIL culture is definitely a different skill set and Saban, I'm sure, found it unpleasant. He is a program-building, high standard, devoted to excellence coach and one needs to do more now. Kiffin has the deal-making skill set and looks to be in the top 5 coaches with that skill.

We will see if the skills Kiffin has translates into championships before college football changes again. Even without the NIL aspect, Kiffin seems to have grown into a championship-level coach.
If he comes to LSU will we need to change that player’s name to an unpronounceable symbol? If so, we can refer to him as “the player formerly known as Prince”.
The OL needs to come together as a unit. It could, but we don’t have 3 elite guys playing on a unit that has 6 or 7 guys that have been part of an elite rotation playing together for a few years. It seems like that’s what Bama had that we don’t have.
I notice you don’t have Indiana in your top 5. I was wondering what their team would look like next year and how they would do. They’re probably the toughest team to read going into next year but they’ll be really good because of their coach.
I thought we would pick up one elite CB in the portal but we do appear to have a very good secondary. Picket will be elite. Some of our safeties can probably play corner in a pinch.

For those scoffing at the prospect of converting a WR into a CB, that’s exactly what Saban did with Corey Webster.
I still say grab 2 good young OL in the portal and an elite CB instead.
Holy cow! He got both along with a very promising small college QB.
Those are some nice highlights. He towers over his competition, is physical and has good speed.
I say get this guy for 1/4 of the price for Seaton and get two more OLs. Seaton could get hurt and that $4M or whatever he is going to command is going to get flushed. You take that chance on Leavitt because he's a QB. I don't know if you pay that price for a guy who is part of a 5-man unit.
