It was a weird year. UF did beat UT 59-20.
Would've loved to see a rematch between UF and LSU in the SECCG.

That was a crazy arse year for CFB as a whole. Wasn’t that the year Mizzou and Kansas had a top 5 showdown?
Kansas.
I mean we had a top 12 matchup with UK.
That SC-UT game was insane too. We were down 21-0 at half, Fulmer explicitly told the sideline reporter we weren’t going to come back, we tied it 21-21 but lost 27-24 in OT.

LSU had a great team in 2007.
But Tennessee gift wrapped that win with an epic Ainge breakdown late in the 4th quarter.

Slow start is quite an understatement. Lost to SC, got our doors blown off by Tennessee (down 28-0 at half), and the following week needed a miracle fumble by Vandy late in the game inside our 10 yard line to beat them. Without the manufactured emotion of the end zone celebration in Jax, no telling how our season would've gone from there. Instead, we realized, "Hey, we're one of the best teams in the country, aren't we?"
The season was a perfect encapsulation of the Richt era.

How in the HELL did Tennessee win the East in 2007?
SEC Refs. SC was robbed in Knoxville that year.

Kentucky had a great offense that year. Defense was average at best.. for some reason Kentucky can never have a great defense and offense in the same year

but they had Ainge and Crompton at QB
Ainge threw for 3,500 yards and 31 tds that season and he broke his hand against Cal in the opener.
quote:
I know they had Foster and freshman Berry
Foster had over 1,500 yards from scrimmage that season.
Besides Eric Berry...that team also had Jared Mayo at linebacker.
Lucas Taylor was a 1,000 yard receiver that season.
Also had Denarius Moore and Luke Stocker...on offense
Dan Williams and Robert Ayers on the DL.
The SEC CG against LSU was the only close game they lost all season.
It wasn't a terrible team, and Florida losing to an average Georgia team really helped Tennessee out.

We were a young team.
By all measures, we sucked in 2006. Losses to Vandy, Kentucky. The only reason for optimism from 2006 was that we are Auburn's daddy.
2007 started the same as 2006 finished. We completed the 0fer. We lost to every team in the east in consecutive fashion from 2006-2007.
And then our players started to mature. Moreno got more carries. We discovered how to create havoc plays with Marcus Howard off the edge. Stafford protected the ball.
We became a team with playmakers. And that made us dangerous.

If you go back and watch it...after the interception, UT's next possession they take it down to around the LSU 20. Denarius Moore dropped a pass on 4th & 4 that hit him in the hands. Ainge threw for over 150 yards in the 2nd half of that game...

It was. Tennessee got about 10 lucky breaks. There was a blocked FG in there at some point after failing to score first in one OT. All UK had to do was kick a FG to win and it got blocked to force another OT.

They were sophomores, but the team lost some big leaders from the 2006 squad:
From the defense:
DL - Ray McDonald
DL - Steven Harris
DL - Joe Cohen
DE - Jarvis Moss
LB - Brandon Siler
LB - Earl Everett
FS - Reggie Nelson
CB - Ryan Smith
CB - Reggie Lewis
The only 2 starters that returned on defense were Derek Harvey and Tony Joiner (yes the guy that allegedly murdered his wife). We also lost half our offense, including the all time leading passer in UF history, Chris Leak.

Arian Foster fumbled the ball forward like 15 yards and Tennessee somehow recovered in order to kick the game winning FG.

Pick 6 when up by 6 midway in the fourth quarter. You can't do that.
And then the other INT when trying to come back.

The teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime, but the Wildcats seemed to get the break they needed when Sam Maxwell intercepted Ainge at the goal line.
Three straight Kentucky runs put Seiber in range to win it, but his 35-yard attempt was blocked by Dan Williams.
"Coach called it desperation block," Williams said. "You've got to believe you can get it. If you don't, you lose."
The teams traded touchdowns in the third overtime, with the Wildcats stuffing Tennessee's Arian Foster's 2-point conversion.
A personal foul on the Volunteers following the conversion attempt pushed Tennessee back to the Kentucky 40 instead of the Kentucky 25 at the beginning of the fourth overtime.
No matter. Ainge hit a wide-open Quintin Hancock on the first play to put the Volunteers in front. Ainge then found Austin Rogers for the conversion over the middle.

Tennessee also had the miracle comeback against Vandy in '07.
Down 17 points in the 4th quarter and stormed back.
