Probably a given since I grew up about an hour from Tuscaloosa and had family on both sides that lived there. A set of great grandparents and several great aunts and uncles are buried in the cemetery by BDS.

Choice of culture or agriculture.

My dad graduated from the crapstain but I got wise and followed pussy to AU and fell in love with it. It’s a better school anyway. I remember when my heart turned toward the good guys. When Lawyer Tillman crossed the goal line and I leapt out of my seat with joy, I knew. It’s just a different experience. Like Pat Dye once wisely quipped, “Alabama fans love Alabama Football. Auburn fans love Auburn”

Or you actually apply to a college, get accepted, love the town and campus, meet lifelong friends, maybe even a spouse, earn a degree and later wish you didn’t graduate so fast so you could stay longer before real responsibilities hit home.
You have pride in the school for what it gave back to you regardless of student loans and will alway support and look forward to returning.
Guess what...
I got to do all of that with

the historical winner
Auburn fans pretending like they’re the only people in the country who love their university is one of the most hilarious things to me.
Numbers wise, there are more Bama grads than Auburn grads, and we got to love our University AND be associated with the historical winner. Cool, huh?

So, Tuscaloosa is some cultural mecca now? LMFAO!

or you want to be associated with “the other school” that nobody knows anything about except their rivalry with Alabama.
I know one Auburn fan personally. Educated guy, very successful. He admitted his whole family went to Auburn, before pointing out that he just can't stand the sidewalk nature of Alabama.
On the other hand, I know six Alabama fans personally. Three are a father and sons trio; all live in trailers. One went to my high school; also lives in a trailer. One is a retired IRS agent; she's a bitch! One I banged after the 2005 LSU-Alabama thriller; she's hot and likely one of your wives. Out of the 6 of them, only the slut isn't morbidly obese; the five fat ones are all sidewalk fans.
In conclusion, alumni from both schools are probably decent people, but Alabama attracts all the fat slobs that were too dumb for school. It's the truth!

I haven’t looked at this in a while but hasn’t Auburn had a higher enrollment until recently?
ETA outside of a few years in the past until recently, Auburn has had a higher enrollment which typically translates into higher grad rate. So is this just another made up stat by tusc?…

Over the last 50 years, each university has averaged in the low 20,000 range. According to the numbers published by each university, UA edges out Auburn by an average of around 600 students per year:
AU - 21,939 LINK
UA - 22,504 LINK
Regardless, the idea that Auburn alumni make up a small, exclusive group of people who simply love their university more than everyone else loves theirs is laughable.
Bama grads get to experience the love of our university AND bask in the glory of our superior athletics programs. It’s delightful, really.

Personally? Because my parents, grandparents, all my uncles and my cousins all went to UA. There wasn't anywhere else I was going.
Strange question for the gumps, but does geography within the state typically dictate whether or not you go to Bama or Auburn?
I didn’t notice too many south Alabama people who went to UA for example but that’s purely anecdotal per Mobile.

It’s certainly an influence. Or at least it was when I was coming up. Most of my family is from south Alabama, but I grew up in Tuscaloosa and spent a lot of time in north Alabama. There’s definitely a divide. Alabama’s success over the last couple of decades, along with their growth in size as a University has probably changed that dynamic a little.

So take out the past three years and factoring Auburn has slightly higher 4 and 5 year grad rate than UA, what do those number come to?

Even my dad was a bama fan

I was born into it, and thankfully on the right side. I graduated from UA but that has nothing to do with my fandom. I love Alabama because I love the state, so I love the team that represents it.
Also Auburn fans are the college football version of hipsters, so I'm really glad not to be one of them.
