Its such a great rivalry. Even though I dont live in that state I admire the equal passion between the 2 fanbases.

Wife is an Auburn alum.

It is a great rivalry. I like it as a rivalry more than I like UGA/GTU.

But frick the nerds just the same.

Born into it.

But even if you aren't, back in my day you would have been forced to pick one, even if you aren't a fan. "Alabama or Auburn" was often one of the first things asked when meeting someone.

And that's also what builds a rivalry. Going to school and work when you get older with their fans etc.

Some Alabama fans hate Tennessee more, but for me it's Auburn. Although I did live in Tennessee a good bit and was around their fans, it just wasn't the same and wasn't a big deal.

You wake up and decide whether you want to be associated with a historical winner who has political, judicial, & media pull, or you want to be associated with “the other school” that nobody knows anything about except their rivalry with Alabama.

Personally? Because my parents, grandparents, all my uncles and my cousins all went to UA. There wasn't anywhere else I was going.

It's not something you choose. It's like being gay, You can only be born that way.

I was born this way thanks to my dad even though I lived in Auburn the first 8 years of my life. I graduated from Alabama in 09.

Guessing you were born on the porch next to it, then. Quite the distinction.

I've noticed that most fans in Alabama pull for the team their Dad did. My Dad didn't graduate from Bama, but he was a big fan and so was I from a very young age, way before I was enrolled. I have a cousin and her father was an Auburn grad, and she grew up a big Auburn fan. She also attended UA, but still pulled for Auburn even as a Bama student. I have also heard of Auburn students being Bama fans. Like I said, I suspect the most common route to being an Alabama or Auburn fan, is who our parents like when we were young and picking a side.

Born a Bama fan. I was going to games in Tuscaloosa when it was still called Denny Stadium.

My Dad was a big Updyke fan so as a child me and my brothers also were fans, In the sixties when my older brother was being recruited heavily by all the SEC schools he told an Auburn recruiter that he would never go to Auburn. After he started taking visits he fell in love with Auburn and now me and all my brothers have Auburn degrees. My Dad bless his heart never finished high school but if he were alive today he would still be pulling for the updykes.

Both of my parents went to Samford for Pharmacy school, but my maternal Grandmother and Uncle went to Auburn. I was an Auburn fan until I went to college at UA. I chose Alabama because I enjoyed the campus, people, and my visit more when I visited there. Also I received a track scholarship to run with my brother. Also My favorite track coach was Barbara Humphrey, wife of Bobby Humphrey, and mother of Marlon.
