As I've said before: Texas greed has created the conference they wanted, where they are the king with their peons. And it's killing yet another conference. Hope they wallow in it.
I still feel some sympathy for the schools stuck there, like Iowa State. I wish there was a way the other schools could sue texas for damages - the lost conference network revenue is a killer.

I cannot fathom what schools like Oklahoma and Oklahoma State must feel toward Texass as UT has cost the rest of the Big 12 so much revenue.
You'd think they'd have some pull to stand up to Texas. Great football history, great fan support, etc.

Any school in that conference is under Texas' thumb at this point, and that includes the wallflowers from OU. It really is a shame because the Big 12 could have been one of the stronger leagues and in a great position moving forward had they been able to create their own network.
For now, they are in a grant of rights limbo.

They have two natural anchors of academics and Oklahoma St. They added a third with the Big 12 GOR.

I forgot what LHN stood for and thought it was some new Lesbian Homosexual Network that Foxsports was pandering to because that's what media does.

The Big 12, like the PAC 12, lacks national appeal, especially when their top brands are doing poorly.

Why was ESPN even thinking when they gave Texas that much money? $15 million a year is the same amount of money Notre Dame gets for their NBC contract. The difference is Notre Dame has a much bigger following nationally and NBC televises all of their home games as opposed to the two or three games against lesser non-conference opponents the LHN televises every year. That network contract never made sense.

Thanks for the invite.Never imagined 4 years ago the move would have worked out as well as it has.

Wow, they really are a cancer to whatever conference they infect.

Texas is like Ohio State in the sense that when fans that have no reason to care one way or the other about them -- like, say, Vandy fans -- take pleasure in their suffering, you know they're just an awful, awful program that deserves to be despised on general principle.

I thought the theory was that they'd be able to do other programming besides football, and that, while lacking ND's national scope, Texas does have a sizable regional following that probably isn't too much smaller than ND's in aggregate numbers. I mean, you're correct in that it was a dumb contract to make, but it wasn't completely out of left field. Just, you know, really fricking stupid.

The LHN wanted to showcase Texas High School football games. You know, those games that have the 5* recruits playing in them to entice them to go to Texas.
NCAA said nope.

I think that's what I was trying to remember. Yeah, the network people should have cleared that with the NCAA before signing the deal because that's so obviously a non-starter that I can't believe they actually thought they could slip it by the NCAA. The very definition of undue recruiting influence. Hell, the high-school camps that many programs currently run are borderline, and they operate under some stringent NCAA restrictions because of that.

They do broadcast Texas State and UT San Antonio games on their network. They offered Tech a lot of money to put games on there (and ESPN kinda blackmailed them a little) but Tech balked at it.
