Or the ones who tire of Braves, Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers, Phillies, but no one watches Rangers/Cardinals 2011.
 Rangers/Cardinals had better ratings than every World Series since 2009 outside of Cubs/Indians in 2016 and Astros/Dodgers in 2017. Besides the '17 WS, more people watched Rangers/Cardinals than the World Series featuring all of the teams you just mentioned. Nobody watched them, my arse.

Dodgers drew 47,600 on the same night. It’s pretty bad when a football team gets out-drawn by 20,000 by a baseball team, even one as great as the Dodgers.
re: How great would Jimmy Johnson been if he remained in college football?
Posted by Bench McElroy on 9/1/25 at 8:55 am to VADawg
Dolphins WR OJ McDuffie said that Jimmy basically rode the team into the ground with brutal practices after a cross-country trip to Seattle. Hard practices are fine when the team is coming off a first round bye and needs reps to get back into game shape like the ‘92 and ‘93 Cowboys. But coming off a difficult playoff game, Johnson massively screwed up not letting the team recuperate which led to the disastrous game against Jacksonville.

Chris Petersen on Fox questioning why DeBoer hasn't run the ball more often with a first year QB like Ty in there.

DeBoer is just a terrible coach. The lack of discipline on this team is insane. His schemes aren't even that great either.

With a few exceptions, I absolutely hate the players on this team.

If you're going for it on fourth down, why not run the ball either on second or third down?

I absolutely despised Milroe but Ty is showing why DeBoer kept him on the bench while Milroe was fricking up left and right.

Our quarterback should have been Sayin but he made the smart decision to bail and go to Ohio State when Saban retired.

Roger Goodell sees Apple and Google as NFL’s competition instead of NBA and MLB

Once upon a time, the NFL competed with other American sports.
Once upon a time, the NFL competed poorly with other American sports.
Now, the NFL doesn’t even view other American sports as competition.
A recent email regarding Ken Belson’s upcoming book — EVERY DAY IS SUNDAY: How Jerry Jones, Robert Kraft, and Roger Goodell Turned the NFL into a Cultural & Economic Juggernaut — shares a quote Commissioner Roger Goodell private made in the aftermath of Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.
“We’re not competing with the NBA or MLB,” Goodell said. “Our competitors are Apple and Google.”
Regardless of where the NFL goes from here, it has left other American sports in the dust. And, yes, it is targeting much bigger fish.
There’s another competitor that Goodell didn’t mention. On the surface, it seems ridiculous to even discuss. But the NFL surely hopes to chase, and to catch, soccer.

How? Holmgren wanted to be the GM. He was never going to be the GM with Wolf around. Holmgren wasn’t shoved out, he left on his own. Where Wolf screwed up was by hiring Ray Rhodes instead of elevating Andy Reid.
Except Wolf stepped down two seasons later and the Packers ended up giving Mike Sherman the GM job like Holmgren wanted. If Wolf wasn’t going to stick around for very long, why not step down then so the team can keep their HOF head coach?
Tom Brady puzzled why Scottie Scheffler would prioritize family over golf career
Posted by Bench McElroy on 7/29/25 at 11:24 pm

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Open Championship from Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland earlier this month, Scheffler opened up about valuing his importance as a father and husband more than being the world’s best golfer. Scheffler said he puts all of this work in to be great at golf, for what amounts to just minutes of satisfaction after winning a tournament before life goes on.
“This is not a fulfilling life,” Scheffler said. “It’s fulfilling from the sense of accomplishment, but it’s not fulfilling from a sense of the deepest places of your heart…That’s why I talk about family being my priority because it really is. I’m blessed to be able to come out here and play golf, but if my golf ever started affecting my home life or it ever affected the relationship I have with my wife or my son, that’s going to be the last day that I play out here for a living.”
Like Scheffler, Brady similarly had to balance being a parent and husband while also attempting to be the best at his sport during much of his NFL career. And in his latest newsletter, Brady questioned why Scheffler feels the need to prioritize one over the other.
“Scottie said he’d rather be a better father and husband than a good golfer. And my question is: why are those mutually exclusive?” Brady asked. “Sure, they’re different blocks on the pyramid, but they’re part of the same pyramid. They’re connected!
“For instance, I think part of being a great father is being a great example of doing what it takes to take care of your family. I chose to do it by playing football. My dedication to the sport, the hours of practice, the moments when I was laser focused—those were times when I believe I was doing the best possible thing for my family and my kids, by prioritizing my profession and teaching, by example, what it takes to be really good at your job, what it takes to follow through on commitments, what it takes to be a great teammate; and showing them, also by example, that work is a big part of all of our lives.”

Crazy the difference in leagues, NFL/NBA/MLB would have likely suspended him pending investigation.
I don’t think the PL/FA cares about its image much.
I don’t think Arsenal had any legal recourse unless he was arrested. England has some weird employment laws.
The real failure was even entertaining signing him to a new deal with the allegations, IMO
The UK laws are better though. If the accusers get to remain anonymous, shouldn't the defendants get to remain anonymous too until criminal charges are filed? And why should get athletes be suspended simply based on accusations?
re: Which “UT” coach was better? Phil Fulmer or Mack Brown?
Posted by Bench McElroy on 7/7/25 at 8:59 am to MizzouTrue
It's clearly Mack Brown IMO. Made two national championship games compared to one for Fulmer. Had six top 5 finishes at Texas compared to three top 5 finishes for Fulmer. Had three BCS bowl victories compared to one for Fulmer. And top it all off, Fulmer had a 2-7 record against his big rival, Spurrier's Florida while Mack Brown was 6-9 against Bob Stoops' Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout.

re: What professional sports are better today than in the 90s
Posted by Bench McElroy on 6/30/25 at 7:31 am to Schleynole
NFL is unquestionably better now than the pre-salary cap/early salary cap era between 1990-1995 when small market teams had zero chance of winning Super Bowls.Today’s NHL is also significantly better than the clutch and grabbing dead puck era of the ‘90s.
