Do what? I was born in 1972. I vividly remember getting only four channels and one was PBS. All you had for baseball was the NBC Saturday GOTW, later in the summer you'd get an ABC Monday Night Baseball game, and then both ABC and NBC would have games spread throughout the week on either a Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday.
Only a few college football games on only Saturday. Early in the year ABC would have a Saturday Night game. NFL only Sunday and Monday Night with an occasional Thursday Nighter. Being a huge Reds fan, if I missed the game on the radio(700 WLW out of Cincinnati comes in great at night here in Central MS), or the score on the news that night, Id have to wait until the local paper came the next afternoon to find the score. You need to change your age range a little. My Daddy was a huge TV lover. He always had the best and most modern antenna. At night we could get all major channels in MS(Jackson, Meridian, Hattiesburg, and Biloxi) plus New Orleans and Mobile. Good stuff.

Army sent me to Haiti in 2010 after the earthquake. Were able to watch the Armed Forces Network with the Winter Olympics.

Different attitudes about it nowadays, too.

Male and female discussing the possibilities of an extra year of eligibility given to seniors.
The female legit said she didn't think people would like it. Said she graduated in 3 years, had a job offer lined up, and was tired of having to put in all the work to be ready for the games.
The male voice was pretty speechless, as I imagine there's not much you can say on public radio in response.
But really, it's an odd mindset to express on sports.
And like a former LSU baseball player said, he'd have returned for a 10th season if they gave it to him. Said it was the best, funnest time of his life. I didn't play college sports, but I agree my college time was that too. Don't know why it's currently in vogue to limit that.
Maybe Pro sports/money worship?

Growing up in STL it was all Redbirds. You could usually count on a Sunday afternoon telecast on KSD-TV; but during the rest of the week, television coverage was pretty sparse and if they were in town forget about it.
So we generally got our baseball from the 50 billion watt (actually 50,000 watt) powerhouse KMOX. To this day it is credited with the fairly large dispersion of Cardinal fans across the country (at least in the senior set).

I know. My 22 yo son has been stoked because he doesn't remember much Reds success, save 2010,12, and 13, but we crapped the bed in the playoffs. He said the Reds are supposed to be good again finally and a worldwide plague hits. Life of a Reds fan. I was spoiled in the late 70's.

I havent cut my satellite yet.
But I did cut all of my sports programming (saved about $30/mo).

I remember watching my uncles watch the baseball game of the week.
They would bet on the games. More fun when you could watch on tv.

Older Gen Xer and can relate. On television, all we had were ABC's Wild World of Sports, This Week In Baseball, and NFL Films by Steve Sabol. Locally, KMOX had season recaps on the Cards, Blues, Mizzou, and Football Cardinals.
