The evening news started with the death tolls from each side in the Vietnam war.

Then the riot and demonstration news.

Kennedy killed,LBJ doing his thing then Nixon.

Good times....damn,makes these days look quite tame.

frickin' eh .... god damn right I'm a boomer. I was jumping out of planes, banging soaking wet hot green eyed dark haired poon and writing code before some of these present day "okay boomer" cocksuckers were a tickle in their momma's well worn va jay jay. And I am lulzing at every "okay boomer" asswipe I see because I know they don't have the good goddamn sense to get the frick outta the rain these days ... and these days are proving me right as we live and breath this very minute. Just look around.

The reason I say 1970 is ESPN started in 79. non of us were to interested in football at 5-9 years old.

I was born in 78 and this represents me plenty, I'm a Xer with a boomer upbringing. There wasn't jack on tv, we stayed outside all day. and when it comes to sports, I didn't read every post but a piece that's missing is the newspaper. I didn't get baseball tonight until I was in high school I think, before that I checked box scores in the paper every day. Try being a white sox fan in Louisiana in the 80s. They didn't even put all the full boxes in every day. And every Saturday they posted a full page of season stats, it was the best.

Hell, I was. I've always been a sports nut especially with NFL, CFB, and MLB. Here in rural MS, we didn't get ESPN until I was 12 in the summer of 84 when he got the old satellite dish. So, most of my elementary and half of middle school I had the "3" channels.

Just think in about 2 more months when no one has a job and half the population can't get the internet.

Radio announcers were really good and painted a great picture.

You are so right.

Auburn radio 1971: Gary sanders and gusty yearout.”Sullivan breaks the huddle. Beasley split right. Schmaltz in the slot. Sullivan back to pass. It’s a long one down the right hash and beasly’s Got and he will score! Touchdown Auburn. The extra point is good, and with 7:22 left in the first quarter, the score is Auburn 14 Georgia 14.

I was born in 62. It was a better time. Liberals and conservatives were still on the same team. Sports on tv was different. I like having as many options for football viewing that we have now but I'm not a fan of kids looking at their phone all day or playing video games.

Kids are lazy now and it's the parents fault. We built ramps for our bicycles to jump over garbage cans. We all played games outside even the ones who weren't good at sports. It developed a lot of camaraderie amongst the kids. We learned how to deal with failure and how to pick a kid up if he had a bad day. We also mowed grass or fed the neighbors pet when they were out of town to earn a buck.

Now kids have no urgency. They're spoiled. Kids now days don't know how to figure out an issue if something doesn't follow what's written in a book. They don't know how to work. Society is soft. It's pathetic.

There is one thing that kids still do today....they still think they know everything. But it's more dangerous in this age. Heaven forbid if the grid ever goes dark or something like that and they can't access their smartphones or video game consoles.

I don't know if "idiocracy" was a silly movie or a prescient warning. It's looking more and more like the latter.

Man, we are spraying the fields with those electrolytes right now with this COVID response. Hopefully it's not too late to change course before permanent damage.

Nowadays dude people shoot each other. They dont know what a fist fight is.

When I was younger we were my dad's remote. And we only had 3 channels. I spent so much time outdoors that I only came in to watch the big games, like the Iron Bowl etc. Because that was really the only game, locally, being played on tv. Of course there was the NFL but I've never been a big fan.

Growing up in the 1960’s and 1970’s , radio was the primary way to follow college football.

The radio guys in that era were so good. They could paint a picture and in your mind you could picture the game while listening to it.

There was a small amount of TV.

The link below was the end of the 1974 Mississippi State-Memphis State game in Memphis and I was listening with my Dad in our den. I think we both almost jumped through the ceiling. State was trailing late 28-21 and we went on a 98 yard drive and then went for two.
Listening to Jack Cristil on the radio was very special.

Enjoy

That was the PERFECT rant! Only one thing could make it better. To have a link to an audio of your voice saying all that!
