But those of us who were know all too well what its like not to have sports 24/7.

We had a handful of games each week and that was it. For those of us that do remember what comes to mind first?

Not sure why but the Wide World of Sports commercial during the Olympics. The thrill of victory... and the agony of defeat!! As the guy goes off the ski ramp into the nets and crashes.

This was the norm for lots of us old folks.

That's still better than we have now.
We don't even have games to look forward to because baseball season is cancelled.

I wouldn't mind it if they only showed sports....its the other 1000 hours of programming with 5 people in boxes shouting at each other, or 2 people sitting across a desk. Each show discussing the same sh*t over and over and over.

We used to attend a lot more games ... we cannot do that now.

Radio was huge. Now it's podcasts. Back then some of us were poor and we would work, ride tractors or cut pulp wood while listening to the games on high speed modern transistor radios with coat hangers instead of antennas running on 9v batteries that might, or might not, last through the game and with a speaker you had to hold up to your ear to hear between chopping wood or dropping hay for the cattle ... all depended on the month.

I appreciate modern things, most modern things, but not what globalization has cost us.

IMHO, far more important than losing sports temporarily .... is what we have lost as a nation in terms of neighborly brotherhood.

Social media, to a great extent, is now the bane of our existence. fricktards who "okay boomer" a mother fricker in the middle of the night with no fear of having his arse stomped down at the local Sonic or Whataburger .... by a boomer, is part of what's wrong with all of this.

But pay no attention to my old boomer arse. As I was telling another old Boomer friend of mine earlier tonight, an old army buddy and by god we did stomp some arse in our day, I worked out on the body bag yesterday and my hands have been swollen and sore all day today. At least until I toked some high potency CBD buds and drank a few glasses of good wine.

Now I'm just feeling ornery. And I did used to love the occasional arse stomping and beatings I would throw on shite talking little fricks .... good god I miss that. Hell, would even occassionally get my arse bloodied ... the broken bones are talking to me these days, but god damn it made you feel alive and harder then woodpecker lips to survive the god fights ... broken bones and stitches and busted orbital sockets and all. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

But yeah OP, I remember those days when only the midwestern blue bloods got the TV privileges .... but these days are not the same. The problems these days are mostly brought about by shite talking fricktard assclowns everywhere, EVERYWHERE, whose cuck daddies spared the rod and spoiled the child, The ones who the MSM and Social Media shithooks cater to these days .... because they are weak minded and self serving little fricks who fear no repercussions for their anonymous shite talking.

They can get the frick off of my lawn.

frick'em. We boomers have seen and done more than some (I repeat some, not all) of their little dick minds can or will ever be able to comprehend. While we boomers, these days, stay up late to catch the asian and European overnights so we can text our brokers with instructions on what to do with our money when the markets open while we are sleeping late before the kids and grandkids arrive now that school is out.

frickin' eh .... god damn right I'm a boomer. I was jumping out of planes, banging soaking wet hot green eyed dark haired poon and writing code before some of these present day "okay boomer" cocksuckers were a tickle in their momma's well worn va jay jay. And I am lulzing at every "okay boomer" asswipe I see because I know they don't have the good goddamn sense to get the frick outta the rain these days ... and these days are proving me right as we live and breath this very minute. Just look around.

Goddammit you’re alright in my book! I agree wholeheartedly, and I’m 26. Good bit of people my age are soft as that shite they’re buying 96 rolls of in WalMart and real damn quick to disrespect someone but even quicker to tuck their tail between their taint. A damn fine boomer helped raise me, and he taught me a good number of things I see absent in people my age and younger. You see kids pay more attention to their phones more than they do their grandparents when they’re with them. I know, people are gonna say they always say “kids these days” but these kids literally are incapable of holding an intelligent lengthy conversation it seems. Sad. What became of subtlety?

Well said Scroos. Just think what the next generations going to come into. Kids these days can’t even replace a lightbulb. I work as a handyman and am so fricking busy fixing young kids shite!

I place an add in the paper err on the web for a helper. What do I get as applicants? A bunch of worthless motherfrickers that want to stare at their phones if they even show up. One of the first things I do is give them a tape measure and ask them to read it. Then I ask them to hammer a nail in a board. My oh my is the future in pitiful hands.

That might just be a problem localized to Gainesville.
I agree. A buddy of mine who owns a tire and auto body shop come in, ask for a job. He says okay, gives the kid a shot to see what he knows. He asked what a turbo was his 2nd day.

You are a 26 year old I could sit and have a meal with. I accept it as a sign of the times but it's nice to know that some see it as a "not so good" sign of the times. Someone raised you right....

I appreciate that man. If you’re ever in Louisiana put up a post. I understand it’s not a generationally unique thing for people to not be raised properly, or to be lacking in their ability to understand that they’re being disrespectful, but it’s a big issue that I wish more people realized. It’s completely changed the way I’ve dated throughout my life, for sure.
As a teen, I wasn’t on my phone half as much as teens these days are. I honestly feel for them. It’s hard not to be on your phone when it acts the same way to your brain and playing a slot machine. I live way out in the country, (just put Monroe people would be like I have no clue where tf that is if I put my hometown) and every young kid down my road plays outside now since this shite with Corona started. I realize this is not a great possible outlook for our older population, but God I hope these kids figure out how to play like we did as kids. I stayed outside either shooting hoops. Throwing a football to my damn self and running under it if I didn’t have a buddy around or if my sisters didn’t wanna play, fishing. Asking neighbors if I could fish at their ponds. Staying out past the time the street light went on. Just hope we have some good come out of this.

When I was a kid football on TV:

One game on Saturday for college.
CBS had NFC on Sunday.
NBC had AFC on Sunday.
Then all of a sudden, ABC had MNF.

Four games total on TV. This lasted until around 1980 or so.
