Absolutely love seeing Joey on the broadcast. Would love to have him join the Reds network and do games. I miss that Canadian sonofabitch.

If you have a good woman, you marry her. Lock it down. Some other guy will if you're too stupid to see what you have on your hands and appreciate her.

re: I didn't realize prescription glasses at the eye doctor were that expensive
Posted by UKWildcats on 7/25/26 at 7:16 pm to Jenious
quote:Thanks for the heads up on that. I'm actually about to get a new pair of glasses when I get my new prescription because the pair I have I've had for at least a decade and they are beat all to hell. I only wear them around the house, contacts at all other times outside of the house. I've literally been putting off replacing them because of the absurd prices for prescription frames for something I only use 1-2 hrs a day inside my own home.
I ordered two pair from Zenni and paid less than $30.
So I appreciate the recommendation

Agreed. Seems like he's always been the consummate professional, and one of those guys on another team that's easy to root for from afar.

re: How is Stephen A valuable for ESPN?
Posted by UKWildcats on 7/25/26 at 11:22 am to Dadren
So he doesn't bring any value. Him bringing"goodwill" implies that people like him, and therefore view him and ESPN favorably.
He drives social media clicks.
OK....all of this attention and clicks is derived from him delivering terrible hot takes. People overwhelmingly don't like him. People don't tune in. People don't watch ESPN, and have been dropping them in droves, hence the mass layoffs.
How exactly is pissing people off and turning them "creating goodwill."
Creating goodwill and awareness through social media videos only works if it gets people to turn your network on, but your product, patronize your business, etc.
Essentially some of you are in this thread trying to argue that Flo from Progressive or LiMu Emu from Liberty are good things.
Most people hate those commercials, they're annoying, and since they piss them off, they don't patronize those insurance companies.
Stephan A is the human embodiment of that. He drives viewers away that he could otherwise capture if it weren't for his absurd hot takes, which are precisely the impetus behind why his videos garner social media clicks.
Just because someone clicks on a shared video of him doesn't mean people are agreeing with it, nor is it necessarily engendering goodwill on behalf of ESPN.

I agree, I'm tired of seeing WNBA bullshite posted because no one cares about it.
However, this is yet ANOTHER example of the endless bullshite the left wing media puts out there. Their lies don't have to land 100% of the time, but as long as they hit often enough, that's all they're worried about. Slowly chip away. So it's absolutely important to point this shite out, because there are far too many people in this country who choose not to exercise critical thinking actively and just lap this stuff up at face value.
You have to expose the media for what they are these days. Which is a shame, because their job is SUPPOSED to be holding those in power accountable.
Instead, we now live in an age where those trying to get into power have weaponized them. And while we can certainly point to litany of examples of media being used as propaganda since the invention of the printing press, it has never been more invasive or insidious than it is today due to social media.

My best bud growing up here in Lexington was from Ashland. His dad worked for Ashland Oil and moved them here when the offices moved here. I feel like I met him in 1989 or90 when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade.
Anyway, not a lot of blacks in Ashland. Borders West Virginia.
