Okay, but if FSU doesn't score on the final drive in the 2013 natty, does that really change Gus's performance right now?

This is exactly what I was thinking. Gus got his raise & extension from beating two #1 teams back to back, then watched both team he beat go to the CFP & NC game while his team turned in another 4 loss season.

CEO got his for actually winning the whole damn thing.

Now that is a respectable post from another SEC team that is objective and doesn't look like some these millennial "typing from Mummy's house" troll threads. Well done

He over performed his last contract without a doubt, but he will have to earn his money from now on. It will not be an easy task with all of the defections of players and staff.

Uh, Chizik got a raise one year after winning the title in 2010. It wasn't on this level but it put him in the top 8 highest paid coaches in the nation at the time.

as in he got a raise in 2011 after winning the 2010 national title?

What an idiot

Yup.

I read your original comment as "show me a coach who got a raise after winning a national title". Not "show me a coach who's school waited a full year to give him a raise after winning the national title".

I stand corrected.

LOL. And LSU fans laughed at A&M for similar money.

For those keeping score, they each have a national title, and are 1-1 head to head as head coaches, but Jimbo Fisher's career record is 100-32, which is a winning pct of more than 75%. Orgeron is 56-36, which is winning pct of about 60%.

Also for those keeping score:

O is 40-9 at LSU, and JUST got bumped to 7 mil after going undefeated and winning the playoffs.

Jimbo is 17-9, started at the 7 mil, and if he ever has a season like that, will be bumped considerably higher.

O got his money for winning at LSU, Jimbo is getting his for winning at Florida State. And Florida State was wanting to fire him at the end.

That doubles his salary, right? Wonder how that's going to affect how much they can pay the assistants they bring in, because it's no longer a situation of HC taking a lot less to give assistants a lot more.
Well,...

Dabo makes 9.25, Saban makes 8.7. Not real sure what Day or Riley are getting.
Sounds like if everyone is willing to pay the same total, LSU still has more room to pay assistants.

don't get too euphoric just yet..let it play out for a season first.

Uh, we just did to the tune of 15-0 with the NC and Heisman.

I think that's reason enough to get euphoric. But then Alabama fans wouldn't understand, never having witnessed their team go 15-0 with a Heisman winner.

I think it's a fine deal in the current environment

That doesn't mean it'll be shocking if Ed O trails off from here and the contract looks really bad down the road. He's done all you asked and more, what happens from here is just speculation.

Meanwhile, the Gus contract seemed like a bad, bad overreaction at the time and will end up decent at best, horrendous at worse.

I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen either, but 6 years isn't a very long road. Even with the wheels falling off, I wouldn't expect a losing season until year 3 or 4, and then he'd probably be given another season. So, at worst, I could see LSU only having to buy out 1 maybe two years of his salary.

And what is Orgeron at USC and LSU combined?

46-11

80%

Your move.....

He just won the National Title, if you think there arent other schools out there who would love to have him you're smoking some serious crack.
While this is almost certainly true, you are overlooking the fact that Orgeron loves being at LSU. He's not going to leave for USC if they offered him $10 million a year.

In fact, I believe the contract took that into account, in that he's still not really making Dabo/Saban money, or even Harbaugh/Jimbo/Malzahn money. .
