Just a fun topic to see how many of you dinosaurs remember the FIRST football game you ever saw (college or professional). Do you guys remember??

For me, I was a little kid, never seen football before, and I walked into my parents room to watch TV. My dad parks me in front of the TV for my first football game (he didn’t want to baby sit me so he flipped on the TV), Super Bowl XXIX. After that game, I was hooked. The 49ers became my favorite team for a few years. I still remember Steve Young post game. I can’t remember my first college game I saw, but if I had to take a guess, I want to say it was a Michigan game.

quote:

Super Bowl XXIX was an American football game between the American Football Conference (AFC) champion San Diego Chargers and the National Football Conference (NFC) champion San Francisco 49ers to decide the National Football League (NFL) champion for the 1994 season.[5] The 49ers defeated the Chargers by the score of 49–26, becoming the first team to win five Super Bowl championships. The game was played on January 29, 1995 at Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami, Florida.

As a kid growing up, my mom would tell me all she had to do to babysit me was turn and sport on the tv and i would just sit there and watch. The first game i can remember was the 86 Orange Bowl when we played Penn St when i was 6. The first game i can actually remember the score was the orange bowl vs arkansas the next year.

Saw? No. The first one I heard was the 1975 season opener against Oregon. Sooners won 62-7 and would eventually become back-to-back national champs by January.

It was very difficult to keep up with the play-by-play, as everything sounded muffled through the uterine lining, and I don't think my ears were fully developed yet. Plus I had a poor understanding of how the triple option worked.

But after I was born the following March, things got a whole lot easier.

I have a memory of being like 5, and playing baseball bc I accidentally hit the “catcher” in the head with a foam bat bc my 5 year old arse lined him up inside the batters box. But if you ask me where I saw baseball that I tried to emulate it, no idea.

I was 6 years old and my dad brought me to see LSU vs. Rice in Tiger Stadium. It was the first experince I ever had attending a big time football game - it was a memorable experince.

Earliest I remember was going to an LSU Alabama game at Legion Field when I was 5. My Dad went to every LSU game home and away for years and was starting to bring me along.

I also remember going to Georgia the next year as well as Ole Miss on Halloween in Jackson where they dressed me up like a stormtrooper and went trick or treating in the RV lot.

Went to lots of games in BR from an even younger age but those all blend together.

That’s the first Super Bowl I can remember. And I also became a 49ers fan after that. I do remember being a Cowboys fan before that but can’t recall the games.

As I got older I became a Jags fan and went to multiple games there.

Ive been going to Auburn games since I was a kid and have always been a fan. My family and extended family are all Auburn fans.

The Penn State-Miami Fiesta Bowl or Sugar Bowl, whichever one it was. I would've been 6. My grandpa couldn't stand Miami. All I remember is the Penn State guy getting the interception.

My football memory didn't become vivid until I was about 10 or 11. Up until then it was just bits and pieces fo games.

I can remember going to Bama games at Legion Field as a little kid but I don't remember who we were playing or really anything about the games other than being there. The first game I can definitely remember was Van Tiffin's kick to beat Auburn in the '85 Iron Bowl. I can remember watching that play on TV and my mom going crazy when he made it.

I remember the first game I attended.

Penn State 9, Alabama 0 at Bryant Denny. Circa 1990 maybe.

I remember it was a big game atmosphere and it was three field goals.

1989 Alabama 5A High School Football State Championship Game at Lamar Field in Oxford, AL. Oxford defeated Smiths Station 37-35 to win their second straight state championship. I was about two and a half years old at the time and still have memory flashes of it. They are my earliest memories.

My dad took me to the 1980 Sugar Bowl
Arkansas vs Alabama
Lou Holtz vs Bear Bryant

I remember driving to the Dome and on the radio Arkansas fans were chanting "Roll Tide roll, around the bowl and in the hole"

1972 Clemson / GT at Grant Field. I had watched some games kind of half assed on TV prior to this but this was the first time I ever saw a game in person. My mom and dad were getting a divorce at the time and my dad got the tickets from an uncle who sold souvenirs at Tech and UGA games (this was back in the day when you could do that sort of thing). I was STOKED! Spending the day with my dad was good enough but going to see a game live? Forget about it. We got there early, of course, and went to the Varsity and it was ALIVE with football fans in Yellow and Orange. We walked to the stadium through the folks tailgating and I knew we were doing something special. We found my uncle's stand and he gave me a GT penant (penants were required back in the day) and we entered the stadium...I as amped up. We made our way to our seats...mid-field, lower level about halfway up the stands. Perfect seats. Went to our seats...and both of the seats we had were dead center of an i-beam about a foot in front of us...could not see anything on the field except for the back of the end zone at both ends. Bobby Dodd Stadium, as it is called today, was a shite hole then...even at 7 years of age I knew that an engineer who could not build a stadium without I-beams blocking the view of the field was an engineer who had gone to a shitty school. About 2 weeks later my Dad and I listened to Larry Munson call the UGA / UK game from Lexington KY, which seemed like the most exotic place on earth to me LOL, while crappie fishing....UGA won that game and Munson was in typical form and I have been a UGA fan ever since. I think my Dad kicked the GT habit that same weekend.
