No.
Its no longer recruiting. Its more of a bid war over kids who will sign with the highest bidder and aren't worried about jersey/brand. Then come next offseason, declare for the portal just to solicit more bids to see if they can't get more money.

When it comes to recruiting HS talent, I personally do not see the point in it at least for P4 schools. Surely they still will but it hasn't and will not be as prevalent as it use it. Why go recruit HS talent, spend the time and resources to develop them only to have them sit the bench, then they are liable to hit the portal the following year in search of more money. Better to just hit the portal and grab guys who already have playtime, experience, development, stats at the college level and let the HS talent go play at a FCS, G5, D2, etc. school and grab them after they develop.

Ever since NIL/Rev share, there needs to be regulation on transferring but I am unsure how you go about that. IE: transfer limits or sitting out a period of time if you transfer.

Need to cap NIL, it’s not sustainable long term and will only increase as dumb arse schools/boosters keep funding it. Yes, my school included.

If Sorsby/Leavitt were 6MM QB’s would Joe Burrow be a 12MM QB making as much as his coach?

Nah, the portal is far more interesting to watch.

No use getting excited over guys like Walker Howard or Shelton Sampson anymore.

In another Alabama forum, most posters, out of habit, refer to players by their numbers. The past 3 years I have to constantly check the roster to figure out who they are talking about. I used to have the 2 deep pretty much memorized, now, I don't even know who our starters are until halfway through the season.

I only look with care after NSD now, expect half to not there in two years. Used to keep up with it, now I pay no attention.

I actually miss how you could accuse other teams of cheating and buying players during recruiting more than the actual recruiting itself...

And it was especially fun being a fan of "villain" program where everybody accused YOU of cheating. Because that meant you were winning.

You're better off following other schools' recruiting so you know who your school is going to poach the next year.

Never did, so I guess that's a "NO" but even less now. I honestly couldn't tell you the name of one of our football players if you asked. I just know numbers once the season starts. No need to learn names when there is an 80-90% chance they won't be on the team next year. They have ruined football for me. If I'm not doing something I'll watch and I always want State to win but it's not the same as it once was.

Recruiting fell by the wayside with early signing period, long before NIL.

NIL was just the final nail in the coffin.

Follow it less but still follow. Used to post about visits but stopped doing that. Will post mostly reliable crystal balls from well known writers. And of course post all the commitment announcements. 2027 thread has 140 posts.

Less people are involved because players can be gone in a year. Portal tracking is just as big as recruit tracking.

Most of the 4 and 5 stars will stay because they usually get paid more plus if good they get starting time.

The low 4 and then 3 and below stars are looking for playing time after a few years so transfer often. And you do get high 4 and 5 stars leaving who got less playing time than expected.

Can you imagine if we had NIL and social media back in the 70’s -90’s.

Nope, I'm only interested in the players who actually enroll in our school and contribute to our team.

Barely follow it at all, and I hate that. NSD used to be almost a holiday

My thoughts exactly. When I didn't take the day off, I may as well have, since my productivity level was zero. Now I may check a few times throughout the day but no more spamming the refresh button.

Not much. And, frankly, I wonder how the paid sites are gonna hang on now that interest is dying. I’m even debating cancelling my premium sub here.

It's worth the membership fee just for the Christmas party. Hugh Heffner has nothing on Chicken when it comes to providing a good time for VIPs.

No. I see who Stein signs, and this is a caliber of player we aren't accustomed to, so it does excite me, but I'm not following the minutiae or getting up and down over that shite anymore in this modern circus.

Like I said, I follow after they commit. And so far I like what I see. There is still value in recruiting and how teams approach it.

Most schools are changing focus to other “value add” things they can provide besides money.

And it can help weed out players solely chasing money but who could disrupt your locker room.

I do like what I’m seeing so far out of OU having 5 top 40 2027 commits.

I do love following the transfer portal

The football portal drives me insane, but in basketball it's almost a requirement now because if they're good they'll play one season, and if they're not, they're going somewhere else to start instead of sitting on the bench and developing.
