I grew up in a multi-generational Sooner household. My Dad had extreme pride in the school and would drive us up to Norman for games all during my youth.

The timing was bad . . . .OU had gone into the Schnellenberger/Blake tailspin in that stretch and I was basically 10 years old at the tail end of the Switzer era.

You went to A&M because of the campus visit back in the day?

That’s interesting.

I’m intrigued, friend.
Why do you find it interesting?

I was a huge, I mean huge, Ole Miss fan growing up. My dad grew up in the mid to late 50's-early 60's glory years of Ole Miss. His entire family was Ole Miss fans. My brother ended up going to State, and I followed a few years later. Our entire family did a 360. I've been a huge State fan ever since. It's now been almost 30 years. Growing up an Ole Miss fans and going to their games growing up has given me a great perspective on the Egg Bowl rivalry. I know how Ole Miss fans think and act.

It was a shitty visit for me in the early 2000s.

I ended up at LSU though so I’m probably in the minority

If at any point you were really worried you would not get into UGA, you do in fact have plenty to be worried about.

I grew up not really caring about college sports. Being able to go to the live games is what got me into it.

Gotcha. Totally understand.
Let us know the next time you visit.
We’ll take care of you.

Georgia is the #15 Public University in the country. South Carolina is #118 if you are interested. And the only reason I thought I might not get in is because I got deferred. I got into Notre Dame and UNC no problem. Admissions is weird this year.

Will do

I hung out there for a few months 7-8 years ago for work and was impressed with the transformation that had taken place on campus

Pretty much me. Even though it’s easy cause UF and OM don’t have much hate between them.

But I was born and raised UF. Season tickets. Every home game taking the motor home with the family to Gainesville. Everyone in my family is UF (and I still am too) but I ended up going to OM and now my OM fandom trumps UF.

Nope. On moms side they attended Tennessee from the 1930s forward. Dads side were unaffiliated due being poor mountain folks.

I have an SEC family. My oldest son and I - Bama. My ex-wife and youngest son, LSU. My father - a UT grad. Gamedays were always colorful around the house. Fortunately we had no Auburn grads in the family - that just wouldn't have worked!

I grew up in Houston in the 1950's. I had an older cousin who received a basketball scholorship to attend Rice. I automatically became a Rice fan.

I also sold popcorn at Rice Stadium for football games. Cougar High (aka University of Houston) used Rice Stadium to play their home games. I worked the Aggie/Cougar High game and saw the Texas Aggie band perform. The band won the halftime (as they always do) and the football team clobbered Coog High.

I immediately became an Aggie fan. So is my whole family.

I do have a nephew who was a four year letterman at Rice for football. In fact he played on the last Rice team to go to a bowl game. However they were clobbered in the New Orleans Bowl by Troy. He is still a Rice fan but his wife is an Aggie and he loves the Aggies too.

I grew up a Georgia fan. At a certain point it was just more fun to choose my teams instead of just going local. It's not 1960, every single game is accessible.

True story... some years ago a young man from a very prominent family in Birmingham was a sophomore at Alabama, following in footsteps of four generations. That summer he fell hard for a coed floozy from Auburn and against all common sense and family tradition, transferred to Auburn.

He bought a trailer (at the time Auburn students had a number of huge mobile home parks for off campus housing because of a lack of apartments) and he and Ms Aub sorority Goodwool moved in together. Well, as you can guess it didn’t last long and she left him in his mobile home...depressed and lonely...in Auburn...

The young man called his mother and told her he was so broken up and sad and he wanted to get out and return to Alabama. It was heart wrenching for a mother to hear her 20 year old son so tormented.

But she was a mother who believed that life has good/bad and lessons are an important part of growing up... so....

She said, “you made this choice ...so... you just stay in Auburn until you sell that mobile home and put the money back in your trust fund... then we can THINK about supporting your return to Alabama sometime next year.

Lessons: Families can exhibit tough love, also even when you are young and testosterone stupid, you should try not to let kitty overrule rational thought.
