Kirby has the SEC titles saving him while having a losing record against Kalen DuBose and back to back one and dones.

The back to back titles give him a pass but the lack of playoff results - they’ll become a problem for bowl cut if he fails again this year.

If DeBoer had won the SEC the past two seasons and lost to Kirby two of three, he would have been extended more and the Bama fanbase would feel much better.

I've never said we didn't get our arse whooped in both games, anywhere on this site.

But if you're a head coach and you know what your weaknesses are going in (including injuries to key players), you would still be proud of accomplishing a feat that 14 other programs didn't.

You know why you got there, and you probably know why it didn't work out at the end. So does the AD, and the BoD.

The context matters, specifically related to the title of this thread.

Here's a fun what-if.

How does everyone feel if DeBoer goes to Michigan and Bama had hired Whittingham to replace him?

If it makes you feel any better, our offense went to shite after Drew Bobo went out with injury. Won anyway.

Alabama has won enough recently that we can afford the “steady as she goes” approach while the entire sport reinvents itself. I’m not going to defend DeBoer vigorously but there is something to be said for just staying in the hunt every year and I think 9 wins is that threshold once the playoff expands past 12.

I don’t think anyone can know for sure the strategy to win titles consistently in this era because the field of play changes every year in terms of roster build opportunities and constraints. If DeBoer can just keep the car on the pavement until things mature in CFB, then I’m probably not happy with the results but thankful he doesn’t nuke the program in a protean moment.

Wouldn't it be a moral victory for Alabama fans to celebrate beating Georgia in regular season games when Georgia is beating Alabama in SEC Championship games and National Championship games?

Maybe you don't know what a moral victory is. But, yeah. Go ahead and celebrate DeBoer having a 2-1 win record against Georgia.

One thing that seems to irritate Georgia fans is the fact that Deboer has more playoff wins than Kirby since Deboer arrived in Tuscaloosa.

They also don’t like for people to bring up the fact that Georgia is 2-10 against Alabama over their last dozen meetings.

They also don’t like you to bring up the all time series record which they trail 27-45-4.

And here they aren’t crazy about people pointing out that they have the same number of wins over Alabama that LSU does.

Perhaps you would like to compare the head to head record in championship and playoff games. It sounds like you would like to compare them. Do you think it will look good for Georgia?

Or perhaps celebrating the only two games Georgia has won, while ignoring all the losses, is a moral victory.

The irriatating part is how hard Bama fans are clinging to winning a DEI round playoff game. There's a big step up once you make it out of the DEI round and into the quarterfinals. Bama found that out the hard way. Took the biggest arse whooping that any SEC team has ever taken in the history of the CFP.

And if Georgia fans wanted to find gay moral victories like Bama fans, then you can say that Georgia is the only team in the SEC to make it to the CFP quarterfinals in each of the first two years of the expanded playoffs.

See how irritating moral victories can seem now?

Because they think they've "replaced" Alabama.

They don't realize yet they're just little ol' Clemson.

Just a few years ago, I never could've imagined that Bama fans' biggest flex would be "we beat Georgia." It's actually extremely flattering. Also, how the mighty have fallen.

The fact is that Georgia has finished ranked ahead of Alabama 5 years in a row, with 2 national championships and 3 SEC championships. There really is no comparison between the two programs right now.

And Georgia is coming into this season with a loaded team, while Bama is hoping that a bunch of portal players are better than last season's players (which had the second most players invited to the NFL Combine). Have fun with the whole "Deboer just needs more time to get his players into the system" song and dance. "Coach just needs more time to get his players into the system" is rarely a good place to be as a fan.
