The reason is because the fans on the West Coast won't show up for games against lower teams. They barely show up for the marquee games. Not SEC/ACC team's fault that the fan bases are bigger CFB fans and will fill the stadiums and support their teams.

No one forced the other conferences to go to 9 games and playing an 8 game schedule hasn't kept an ACC or SEC team out of the playoff.

Is the pac in the playoff? How did the 9 conference games work out for them?

I wish our pansy arse ADs around the conference, other than Bama's (the only one to want 9 games) would vote for 9 and quit being scared. It almost cost Bama a shot at the CFP, and frankly could have helped a team like Auburn.

The 9th conference game is the championship game. It is the most important conference game of the season.
And it provides a guaranteed big win on the conference champ's resume'.

If LSU is forced to play a 9th conference game against a winless Tennessee (substitute Vandy in other years), is that really helping college football fans?

A 9th game is only, "more average scheduling ".
UGA doesn't want to schedule average more often with a blind schedule rotation.

That is why UGA played 2 OOC road games this season against power 5 schools. We can control our out of conference scheduling (no one controls the quality of their conference scheduling ).

The solution isn't a 9th conference game. It is more inter-league games with better opponents.

Be like UGA. Don't be like the pac 12.

The benefit of a 9 game conf game schedule, could be used to set bowl eligibility. You have to have 6 wins total but also 5 in conference.

But also I think the schedule should be
9 conf games
2 OOC P5 games
1 G5/FCS I would say no FCS, but it’s not much difference between the 2

Let's not act like the SEC is all that. There's a few good teams, but the rest is mediocre at best.

The problem/complaint has always been that with an 8 game conference schedule, there would be teams within the conference that kids would never play against and venues that fans would only get to visit every 12-15 years! These are legitimate complaints and they need to be addressed. Saban's intention is to help solve this problem, AND give fans more significant, big-name opponents on the schedule. You folks aren't addressing the 1000s of season ticket holders who pay huge money to sit through App. State and Samford games because they're the cupcakes for the year. Check the stands in person or on tv at an 11:00 am game and you'll see....with few exceptions, you could toss a grenade in the stands from both 20s, to and through the endzones and back around to the other side of the field, and not hurt a damn soul!.
Unfortunately the only way this could work would be for the NCAA to mandate for ALL P-5 conferences (only SEC and ACC don't already do it), a 9-game conference schedule with 2 OOC games against P-5 teams. Major independents would have to align with a conference to qualify. The playoffs would then be chosen from those conferences.

Disagree about the part week 3 thing. Teams should get a second "bye week" to heal up going down the home stretch.

That idea would also castrate the opening weekend

You don’t understand that a 9th conference game GUARANTEES an additional loss for half of the conference. This means that the winner of the conference is getting PUNISHED for beating teams that will have an extra loss; their “strength of schedule” gets hurt. VERY SIMPLE

If ALL P-5 conferences play under the same rules, then NO P-5 teams will have an advantage.

It's what he wants to happen. He's not going to do it and put himself at a disadvantage if no one else follows suit.

I don't have a problem with a 9 game conference schedule but it wouldn't be an issue if more teams scheduled more challenging OOC games.

There needs to be schedule reform in college football... but it starts with an overhaul of the entire FBS system and conferences that will never happen.

With Conference divisions and a championship game, there is no point in playing 9 regular season games. The champion will have to win 9 anyway.

9 also creates imbalance with home/away splits.

Don’t have an issue with the 9 games but he can frick off over where teams have their bye weeks or weaker OOC opponents.

Don’t shite all over the SEC scheduling smart when the PAC doesn’t.

No school's going to do it if the other schools aren't doing it, too. That's why I said that the NCAA would need to mandate it for a team to be eligible for the playoffs.
