Daniel's seems to have a lot higher opinion of himself than most other people do.

Seems really petty to destroy your legacy over being butthurt over a number.

A guy winning the Heisman with 3 losses should just be thankful and move along.

LSU media ran a full court press that absolutely helped win the voters over as well.

That's one way to guarantee your number is never retired. I'd give it to the FG/XP holder each year as a prize.

Bad look for Lane burning a bridge with LSU player alumni.

Why? What bridge did he burn?

This entitled player mentality is nonsensical. Terrell Pryor tried a similar thing at OSU and ended up suing them only to have the case thrown out.

Daniels had a special year in an otherwise "meh" season for LSU, before OPTING out of a bowl game, no? Burrow led one of the greatest CFB teams of all time to a NC. They aren't the same.

The number and the jersey belong to the school. He needs to get the frick over himself. I hope Lane puts a #5 jersey on Juice for his next photo op.

This is rich, we are two weeks from the first kickoff and the craziness is already in full swing.

What heights (or lows in this instance) can we not hit?

The proper way to react if you are a legend and someone else is wearing your number:

I like how Kentucky does it in both football and basketball.

The number can never be retired. They retire jerseys but not numbers. You have to be a member of the UK Athletics Hall of Fame and it can’t be done until 10 years after that.

In the case of football, when Coach Schlarman passed, a OL of choice earned the right to wear his number each week.

What a clown.

Daniels is what as known in polite society as "typical".

Because Brian Kelly ran a clown show and evidently lied to the kid.

Lane thinks recruits are bigger than the school

#5 isn’t being given to a recruit, it’s being worn by the sophomore starting CB who played at LSU under Brian Kelly last season

Agreed. The problem though is this is being driven by his mom. His mom is also the agent for a number of players on the LSU roster. Makes for a bit of a delicate situation v. Just telling him and his mom to frick off

If he had played in the bowl game would it be okay for the school to retire his number after 2 years, despite him being a transfer?

Colorado seems to think so

I think from a loyalty and public perception standpoint...yes. Fans remember that shite. I remember Emmanual Cook sitting out the outback bowl in 09 I think. Yes, its one game but when you're already only a 2 year player it means a lot.

I think Jalen Carter makes a better case for owning the jersey with No. 5 on it

Or, an opportunity to send a message that no one is bigger than the team.

It completely dismisses the opportunity LSU presented him. Total self-absorbed BS.

We aren't sure which coach promised it to Pickett as a recruit, but it was promised to him.

Then we he got to campus, Brian Kelly talked to Jayden about it and Jayden said no. Kelly then told Pickett no after he was on the team and enrolled in school.

Pickett and his family, and LSU coaches that were around for Kelly's tenure, explained what happened to Kiffin. Kiffin said it was promised to you, you should get it. Kiffin and Jayden do not know each other or have any relationship.

Jayden is acting like a bitch. He's never tried to connect with LSU fanbase or community. He has never returned to Baton Rouge. He does not care about LSU. He also has a psychotic mom that I think is driving this.

Unfortunately for him, he was likely eventually going to get his jersey (not number) retired in the stadium and potentially a statue. That is all but gone at this point due to this.

That’s because LSU couldn’t field a competent defense. Trying to blame that record on him is pretty dumb.
