All true. It is the current status of the program that is concerning. Firing the coach in midseason, I guess that has become a thing but it still has a negative connotation and it means it is all up in the air as to which way things will go moving forward.

Yeah, I remember the story and the pics.

Whorns already beat Oklahoma, one of the other ranked 2-loss teams (there are 11 of them) and I think they are better than 2-loss Notre Dame so yes, probably they are the best of the bunch.

the depth and talent of the Texas defensive line prevails
This is every Texas coach since Akers M.O. in a nutshell, don't worry about scheme, just overpower them and most of the time (somewhere in the 72-75 percent range) it's enough.
I see them losing 2 out of 3.

I have no problem with A&M's ranking.
If it is a cupcake schedule you are complaining about then let's talk Ohio State and whether they deserve to be #1.
The aggies have taken care of business and all the teams ranked behind them did not.

I think bama wins the battle of pom girls, so jealous of that.
Ty Simpson scares the hell out of me, 21 TD's against 1 and only 1 INT!
Hope OU rushing attack can do some damage early and Sooners don't turn the ball over or it will be a long afternoon.

I get it, you just HATE that one of the coveted CFP spots will go to a team none of you think deserves one.
Well, remember the words of William Munny, "Deserves got nuthin to do with it."
You want the top 12 teams in the rankings.
This week the 12th team is Oklahoma at 7-2.
There are nine other teams with the same or better record ranked below the Sooners meaning ten teams could argue for that 12th spot.
Now let's get real, which of those ten teams do you think could seriously compete for the championship assuming they win three games to even reach the final?
Let the Group of 5 team in, heck they might expose their first opponent and advance to the next round.
Eleven Power 5 teams are seven more than we used to see in the CFP and truth be told no one seriously thought a 5th team was better than those top 4.

It was painful to watch and I am not even an LSU fan.

Maybe I am but not overtly, just a product of where and how I was raised.
As for a racist, you take the cake, trotting out a pic to show how unracist you are, see we got us one right here as in some of my best friends are black.
Like I said, I only go by what I have seen and those bowl officials practically have a license to print money.
They INVITE teams to come play and oh yeah, here's a few bucks for your trouble (note: most teams spend more than the bowl payout for the honor of participating).
So if my glib characterization of them causes you to weep and pee your pants, that's on you not me.

My mother's family are from Duncan, hell we could be cousins.
The story about the tower shooting and how the shooter was taken out is lore on par with the Alamo.
As for what Robert Heard said, he was almost right. The ten years after Switzer Oklahoma went 2-7-1 vs Texas.
Giibbs 1-5 (I think OU was the favorite to win all 6 of those)
Schnellenberger 0-0-1
Blake 1-2

So who is going to hold a gun to the head of the president of Notre Dame to get them into a conference?

Let me clear something up here, what I was saying about the bowl system, the big ones.
I call them a bunch of old white guys but that is because those are the only ones I have seen standing around grinning like idiots at the conclusion of said bowls and here is my point.
The teams that play in these games are not the beneficiaries of some huge chunk of money, yes they get paid a fee, something in the 7 digits but after expenses it is not so much.
No, the ones who benefit from the bowl games are a handful of old guys, yes they happen to be white because it is after all an old boys club and what do you have to do to be a member of that? I think we all know.
So no, I was not making a political statement, I was ranting about the state of the bowl system and who it benefits.
I certainly did not mean to trigger any of you snowflakes using the word "white".

No Sooner will argue with you
And we thank you for your concern.
I remember when successful coaches did not have to regularly answer questions denying rumors they were leaving for another job.
At some point the salaries started climbing and the arms race was on.

IMO, the bowl games, particularly the big ones (Rose, Orange, Sugar) could stand a bit of humility.
They exist to make a whole lot of money for a select group of old white guys.
Don't even suggest the lion's share is being paid to the participants.
The teams have to pay their own way there, food and lodging for an entire team including all the coaches and hangers on for a week and then get stuck paying for thousands of tickets they cannot sell. If they want to bring the band and cheerleaders, that is on their tab too.
I would welcome all CFP games played on campus stadiums.

(If you don’t recall, back in 2001, tech tore down their own goal posts and threw it into the ATM section and a brawl broke out in the stands).
Anyone who hasn't seen the video of this one it is watch-worthy.
If the tops of goal posts were sharpened into a point I think they would have impaled some of the aggie fans.

The one I like and I'll explain why in a moment is "It's (fill in a time) and OU still sucks."
The reason I like it is it tells me which whorn fans to engage with and which ones to ignore with the ones saying this being in my Ignore basket.
For my part I don't feel the need to actually insult saxet (okay, I refer to them as whorns and spell their school name backwards) but rather to state the obvious and post about things that have happened so if their history is an insult then so be it.

As a longtime Sooner fan I have seen a lot of highs and the lows.
Have a hard to time believing the program will be allowed to sink into long term mediocrity though having seen what happened to Texas from 2010 to 2022 I know it can.
Anyway, this SEC experiment is what was needed to force the issue.
