Keeping current capacity or going to low 60s would be ideal. No need to go full UNC on renovations with that cutdown.

I know that attendance suffered during the Luke years. I mean, why would anyone want to see that shite show? The last two years have been somewhat hampered by COVID policies. That's gone now. Open the flood gates on attendance. Do you know how much money ticket sales and concessions bring into a the program. Even an empty seat makes money. I would rather them add seats, reduce tickets to allow families back in (This has been missing for a while now) so that we continue to introduce the new generations to football. Reducing capacity doesn't make sense with a facility that sells out even once a year, much less one that fills up a lot more than that.

The average Mississippi family has been priced out of an Ole Miss or State game for a while now. It isn't going to get any better with gas prices remaining high this fall too.

I don't like it when I see huge swaths of empty seats at the Vaught. We are a small university in a small town in a small state. There's nothing wrong with downsizing. The days of college football mega stadiums are over.

We will never have a substantial drop in ticket prices. They’ll keep on jacking them up and make all the retards who buy said tickets make up the difference.

They don’t give two fricks if Johnny and June can bring their mini van full of kids or not

THE Empire State Building was built in 1 year and 2 months ......why 5 years for a much simpler project?

Some additional renderings from the campaign going on:

Attendance is going down, down, down across the board and that horse isn't coming back to the barn, bros. TV has made it too easy to enjoy the product from home. Plus, getting to and staying in Oxford costs a small fortune now. Get ahead of the curve and create a premium experience for the common, everyday fan (like Southern CFB used to be). Another thing, I don't think 64,000+ seats are needed anymore. We only exceeded 60,000 three times this season, and I am about 99% sure the numbers from the Arkansas game were fudged. There were also large swaths of empty seats for the LSU and A&M games.

I agree with all of this

Our home schedule

Troy - it will be hotter than the surface of the sun at 3pm kickoff

Central Arkansas- no thanks to that cupcake

Tulsa-meh

Kentucky - October so the weather will be tolerable hopefully

Auburn- it’ll be full

Bama-it’ll be full

Egg bowl- maybe but that’s for the folks who live close by as it’s back to thanksgiving

I mean I live a mile from the stadium and I’m not going to half the home games this season

Plus the folks who went to Omaha and how expensive everything else is and gas and lodging .

Much cheaper to just stay home unless you live close by

Those renderings are great but I believe they have been put on hold due to construction costs, inflation, etc. Plus they are steering donor money to NIL programs now instead of facilities.

The only thing that gets in my crawl now really is that dam East Club Skybox. It is absolutely hideous and matches nothing else in the stadium.

And what about the Vandy game? We were #12 in the country playing our final home game (a season where we won all of our home games). The listed attendance is 50,000, but anyone with two eyes knows that's horse shite

To be fair here.. it was the week after gameday and A&M and 5 days before thanksgiving.

Vandy was historically bad

That’s asking a lot of folks to come up from Houston or Atlanta or St. Louis again back to back and then hit the road for thanksgiving also

Let’s be honest though, the phases are visible when it’s empty. Yeah yeah insert the jokes here for when we suck. But seriously, on a game day and there are people in the seats the phases are basically invisible.

Even in your own post, those two games alone will pay for the seats. Empty seats don't matter as much as ticket sales do. Reducing capacity cuts the legs out from under you financially, and if that person does show up, you get the added concessions and apparel sales. Until we start having 50% full stadiums for several full seasons, reducing capacity does not make financial sense.

Even through the Luke years / probation, we averaged 89.5% capacity.

If we aren't going to support one of the better Ole Miss teams, if not the best Ole Miss team of the past 60 seasons . . .

It's not just us. Even Bama, Notre Dame, Tejas, etc., are having attendance issues.

It might not be full for those two games though.

We couldn't sell out the stadium in November with College Gameday on campus.

Well 2014 and 2015 were better teams... plus we just got through probation and Matt Luke's shitty teams where a lot of fans were reluctant to come back.

We just got through COVID brother. People had other things to deal with. Hell, I didn't know if I was even going to have a job because of the vaccine mandates, so I didn't attend but 1 game last year. There are reasons beyond interest that came into play. You're basing your argument on some pretty exceptional years considering this economy and other circumstances.

TV Networks want packed stadiums for an enhanced experience for its viewers.

I'd build 45k stadium in Oxford for that reason.

Why not just play at Oxford High School?

If we need a 45k seat stadium, then we need to be in FCS not FBS.

The 2014 game who got blanked 30-0 by Arkansas was better than the first team to win 10 regular season games in school history? Come on.

2015, maybe. That was a really good team.

Attendance has been down even before Covid was released from that lab in China.

It's not just us. It's college football as a whole. Look at the West Coast schools.

College football attendance declines for seventh straight sesaon to lowest average since 1981

What no one has talked about is the impact of NIL on fan interest and attendance.

It may get to the point where the college game is unrecognizable.

Every University could have done this. The argument you are trying to make is we should have done it. What you fail to comprehend is that Ole Miss has a fine history of very shitty AD's and not much athletic fundraising. This is changing but you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.
