Yep.

It's really hard to make the games living 5+ hours from Oxford. At first it was the time lost on the roads on Friday and Sunday, but now it's that and the money.

Dude, an empty seat is not an argument. Ticket sales is the key point. Until we go waaaay down in that, you're leaving money on the table. Show me your financial argument that supports a major reduction in gate, concessions, etc sales.

I never claimed my ideas were financially sound though.

I just said I hate seeing empty seats and attendance is going back up . . . ever again.

I also said I'd love it if we could price the games for the common man (something Southern college football used to be about).

But I know that'll never happen again too, especially with the emphasis on premium seating (something our whole west side will be once . . . if this renovation ever occurs).

The renovation reminds me of conference expansion. No one is listening to the fans and alumni. Everyone is clamoring for more money, be it from TV rights or contracts with big corporations for premium seating. Everyone and everything else be damned.

Well this thread could be taken to our own board at this point, but I would think reducing seats to the low 50s would hurt from a financial perspective even if we have trouble filling above 80%. A small reduction seems to be ideal. You also have to think longterm for the city if it continues to steadily grow. That could help keep seats filled for the future as well.

It's a good time to play "wait and see." The west side is in serious need of improvement, mainly because it was built in the early 1900s. But we need to wait through this terrible economy until things improve. This inflation is going to cause a further drop in attendance, I'm afraid.

I just don't understand the people wanting a total rebuild of a much smaller venue when our ticket sales support what we have now. That would seriously cut revenue and ensure that we could never seriously compete, something that we already struggle with consistently.

I think "wait and see" is our only option right now. Imagine how much more the actual cost will be due to inflation.

Hindsight now, but Mizzou could and probably should have gone down that road. With all the renovation projects with Memorial Stadium, along with the other sports projects that have happened, we could have had a really new stadium. I like Faurot/Memorial Stadium, but a master plan back in 2008 when the MATC/Devine Pavilion was built would have been awesome. 65K stadium with the amenities not just pieced together would have been great.

Ross Bjork wasted time and money with that POS job.

Bjork was the worst thing to happen to Ole Miss athletics in the last twenty years and that includes Coach O and Freezus using a company phone.

First pic--where is the athletics academic building? It's right up to/under the North stands (and likely a big reason why Bjork didn't or couldn't do more there).

If OM tears down that building, that would allow a bigger north endzone, but OM will need to build another academic athletic facility.

I like the exterior renderings. Even just cosmetic additions like brick columns can make a stadium look better.

Just drove by Farout not too long ago, it is a nice symetrical stadium. Remember it sitting down in a bowl.

I think 60-65k in the HD 85", high gas prices, fewer youngins going to live sporting events and aging old timers dying off who you could depend on going to games era is ideal.

Especially for we teams who aren't Elite and not likely to ever be.

It's about catering to the fans who do go with nicer amenities, chairback seats, better food/beverage, larger concourses, and reasonable ticket prices.

A packed 60k seat stadium looks much better than a 5/8-2/3 full stadium and is a more electric game experience.

I first hated when UK during the $150 million renovation of Commonwealth Stadium (Kroger Field) reduced capacity from 70k down to 62,950. But the stadium is far nice with amenities you'd find in an NFL stadium. It can still be expanded to 85k if ever need be, I'd expect one day they'll add an upper deck in one endzone and take it back to 70k if needed. I know thats in the plans

I agree, especially because Oxford is such an isolated small town.

You are one of 2 schools who could have torn down and rebuilt your stadium, Vandy being the other.

Why did you guys keep wasting money with additions instead of building a palace

We're doing that with the next expansion. Tearing down the West Side and Rebuilding from the ground up. That will only leave the East Side that needs to be torn down and rebuilt to match the West Side.

South Endzone is 20 years old and the North Endzone which was just built is being re-done in the next expansion.

Mississippi likes to do things the most stubborn way possible.
