You are one of 2 schools who could have torn down and rebuilt your stadium, Vandy being the other.

Why did you guys keep wasting money with additions instead of building a palace like Baylor? $200 million would have built a really nice stadium not too many years back.

Legislature? Alums?

Who knows. But VH looks like 4 generations of rednecks patched together 4 different trailer homes from 4 different eras to come up with what we have.

And now the 5th generation is pitching tailgate tents on their plot and trying to call it home.

It’s kind of infuriating.

From what I've read, it would cost substantially more to tear down and completely build a new one from scratch instead of doing phases. I'm liking what the West side will look like in the coming years. If they mirror the East way down the road it will be much improved from where it is now. That'll take probably 50 years total though

I believe we are redoing the whole
Entire stadium. We have a 400 million dollar renovation going on currently

400 million would build an awesome stadium from scratch.

The 400 million is being split among a bulk of our athletic facilities. It's not all to VHS

There is no reason whatsoever to tear down the south endzone. The east side is nice except for the club box. They just need to redo the club box and it will be fine. The west side needs a complete teardown , which is planned, and although the north endzone is serviceable, Texas A&M's AD really went cheapskate so I would like to rip that out and replace it. So, there is at least 50% of the stadium that needs to be redone, there's about 50% that would be a complete waste to tear down.

No, no it wouldn't, especially in this economy. Plus, we have a real concrete stadium, not an erector set, so the demolition is a significant job in and of itself.

They supposedly did the studies and it would have cost more and taken much longer to demolish and rebuild. You would have to either build on another spot (farther from the grove) or rebuild in the same spot and spend like 5 years playing in jackson/memphis.

They are going to rebuild the whole thing in stages instead.
First phase is the western side.

The plan going forward is to match the south endzone design around the stadium. In the latest concepts, that is the goal for the west side and a visual band-aid on the north endzone to bring in some common themes.

This is a picture of the concept. I wish that they had tackled the east skybox but maybe that is for later down the road.

Once so much money was sunk into the south endzone, it made no sense to just tear it down and start over. It needed to be done before that so back in '98 or so. The problem with tearing it down and rebuilding is where do you play for at least one year while the stadium is being built? i guess build it next door and keep the old one but then we lose the practice fields etc. Our current stadium is certainly an eyesore and the leadership and decision making under the past admin's is truly short-sighted and idiotic with respect to renovations.

I agree with you on the north endzone. Ross Bjork wasted time and money with that POS job. He could have emulated the south endzone but instead of using the money for club seats and luxury boxes on the NEZ, he added on to the south endzone, destroying the cool walkaround concourse at the top of the stadium, and then built a hot erector set in the north.

I'm sure we'll frick up the renovation somehow.

If we could make our stadium match, take capacity down to 50,000, and make every seat a chairback, that'd be great.

Keeping current capacity or going to low 60s would be ideal. No need to go full UNC on renovations with that cutdown.

Attendance is going down, down, down across the board and that horse isn't coming back to the barn, bros. TV has made it too easy to enjoy the product from home. Plus, getting to and staying in Oxford costs a small fortune now. Get ahead of the curve and create a premium experience for the common, everyday fan (like Southern CFB used to be).

Another thing, I don't think 64,000+ seats are needed anymore. We only exceeded 60,000 three times this season, and I am about 99% sure the numbers from the Arkansas game were fudged. There were also large swaths of empty seats for the LSU and A&M games.

And what about the Vandy game? We were #12 in the country playing our final home game (a season where we won all of our home games). The listed attendance is 50,000, but anyone with two eyes knows that's horseshite. The same is true for Liberty.

There is other evidence of this. We played our home opener as a ranked team (for the first time since 2014) and couldn't put 50,000 butts in the seats.

It's just not necessary for our stadium to seat that much.
