I don’t hate them, but after our 2021 game with Tennessee I find myself often praying for their fans

People that drop their lifelong allegiance because they go to school somewhere else for a few years really confuse me. Had a few friends who grew up Bama fans, season tickets, etc. and went to MSU to pursue specific ag degrees, and ended up “hating” Alabama by the end of their 4 years.

Really, really bizarre.

What are some examples of events from decades ago that are the reason you hate a particular team?

I remember when aTm bought their entire recruiting class. The whole nation knew it, and A&M got called out about cheating their asses off by the greatest coach of all-time. In response, their hick, lying arse coach had a press conference about said cheating. While looking like a deer in the headlights, and sounding like a desperate douchebag, the lying hick did what came natural; Coach Jimbo lied about cheating to the entire nation with tears welling up in his eyes, claiming the class was acquired by nothing other than old fashioned hard work. A few months later, an aTm assistant coach was caught on camera telling recruits how much money they would be paid by boosters if they came to College Station to play football. Jimbo didn't bother having another press conference.

Interesting question. I’m not a Texas fan but I would like to know if Texas fans still remember and hold a grudge against The U for the way the infamous 91 Cotton Bowl went down. I watched that game and it was ugly for Texas. Miami just flat humiliated Texas both on the scoreboard and with the way Miami acted during that game. I don’t know if I have ever seen anything like that game since then. Miami totally destroyed Texas that day then rubbed it in to boot. That game should still have Texas fans burning mad.

If you have never seen that game pull it up on the net and watch it. Miami put on a show that day. It’s worth a watch for sure.

I never put the blame on the U, the Texas staff and team brought that shite upon themselves and did little to defend it.

I have an annual grudge against every team that brags that they are bowl eligible and actually play in a bowl with a
6-6 record. My favorite team growing up was Michigan which in 1972 or 1973 had a tie game against the Buckeyes. Both teams finished 10-0-1 and due to the B1G rules at that time only one Big Ten team-the champion-got to go to the Rose Bowl which was the only bowl available. Ohio State was voted to go by a vote of the ADs of the league. Yeah, I have a huge grudge against Michigan State as they voted for Ohio State. BTW, this grudge is because I am pissed off from more than 50 years ago.

Bowl Eligible my arse!

I'll add a little context to this one. This was still during the time where only the Big Ten champion went to a bowl game. A lot of people don't really understand the huge love of the Rose Bowl for Big Ten fans. Back then you went to the Rose Bowl or your season was over.

Louisville. They beat the shite out of us in the '91 Fiesta Bowl (Bebes first season). And they sure let us know it too ... Miami level strutting, taunting and trash talking. I hated Schnellenberger too for allowing that crap, despite his Alabama ties

It has to be Auburn for me and in particular Cam Newton.

Some of our worst losses have come at the hands of the tigers. The 2010 game with Cam Newton beating us after all the controversy regarding him being paid was a kick in the gut. His arrogance really pissed him off and continued to piss me off while in NFL.

The fact that Mac Jones took his spot as starting QB in New England did help mend the wound, but he will always be on my list of "hated" players.

Penn State is also one of those teams due to the horrible call in 1983 that was a TD and called incomplete. And then you add the fact that their coach was such a scumbag and their fans continued to defend him.

See I go the other way. I’m always perplexed by people who would cheer against the their alma mater.

The Cotton Bowl route was so laughable it doesn’t make the cut for me
It will always be Blake Gideon dropping a game sealing interception allowing the Crabtree fiasco in 2008. Massive implications frick that guy

It was already a rivalry. But when that donut eating blob dimed Alabama out when he was just as dirty and guilty; frick Tennessee forever. I hope this streak is just beginning.

Our greatest teams statistically speaking were either upended or denied a spot in a BCS bowl game by the boiling pot of shite west from us.

For example, I grew up an Alabama fan and in 1977 the National Championship was awarded to Notre Dame instead of Alabama. This was done in spite of the fact that Notre Dame lost to Ole Miss that year and Alabama beat Ole Miss.

That's funny do you have any problem claiming the 64 mnc awarded by the AP? After all, you had one loss to Texas and Arkansas went undefeated, was awarded the Grantland Rice trophy (sports writers) and beat the same Texas team.

National Champions were named before the bowl games in 1964, and after the bowl games in 1977, so you are comparing apples and oranges.

Oklahoma fans certainly hold a hard grudge against LSU mainly for 03 but not as much for the CFP massacre.

OK devil’s advocate response … and it’s truly a devil’s advocate response because I don’t feel this way about my alma mater … to some people where they got their diploma is nothing more or less than where they got their diploma, and once that’s over with they’re done and feel no obligation to have any future connection or relationship.

The connection you have to a university when you attend it is much different and overrides the team you grew up as a child liking because of family. Kids are told their whole life oh you’re a XYZ fan. They don’t even know that there’s other teams out there until they grow up and see it for themselves.

Once you’re an adult you see things full circle and it’s just different. I will add that in this specific case, MSU & Bama aren’t really conflicting interests. If you grew up a Tide fan and ended up attending school at LSU, that’s a bit different.
