If LSU is a top 10 College Football job, why did they settle for Coach O? Where were all the Top Tier Coaches lining up to interview?
Honestly, they were there. Our AD didnt want to interview them....

Every top program has made horrific hires

Bama went Mike Price and Shula back to back

Still upset LSU beat Auburn and yall didn't?

Has literally nothing to do with top HC jobs.

Best one, top 10... either way. The point is more amusing the way I said it though ;p

It depends on how do you define “best”. List seems reasonable if it is about what schools give a coach the best chance to win a NC.

In terms of pressure all those gigs aren’t easy.

I believe that is how he defined it.

But with Mullen making 4.5 million at Miss State, I personally would describe that as potentially the "best job"

ok then I was under the impression that is the top 10 jobs in college football. Which is why I would put Notre dame on the list. Because of their huge fan base and deep pockets. But if he meant best places to win Championships, then Notre Dame does not belong. I would also take Georgia off the list. They haven't won one since 1980.

UGA should be #2 with Mississippi State at #3. State is obviously better than LSU and UF since Mullen didn't want either.

Yeah good point. Places like both MSUs (Michigan and Mississippi) may be better situations overall. Still in position to eventually have teams that compete for something big but coaches don’t get crucified for having a few 6-7 win seasons sprinkled in there.

If we're being fair, we have no idea if Price would have been successful with Alabama's resources or not. Dude decided to go full retard and never coached a game.

If we are being fair, it wasnt an exciting hire on paper. And if we are being fair, O is about to be 9-3(6-2) in his first season so it is clear people arent judging the hire on results

If you're gonna use that logic than you HAVE to put Nebraska on the list, correct?Lots on NC's in trophy case.

Ohio State and Texas both went 30+ years between NC's
Doen't mean each job had plenty of potential to win one.

I would agree with this list. The only one I would bump down would be Texas. On paper it would be amazing but the baggage that comes with that job makes it very difficult. I might would replace Texas with Miami due to the market for recruits in Miami and the success over the last 30 years.

Well, he had just won the PAC-10 with Washington State of all places, and had the best record post-WWII of any long term coach at the place. Some of us were excited to see if he could implement a high scoring offense.

As far as Coach O... I think most people take issue with his loss to Troy than his overall record.

Saban was a DB coach Just saying

Saban was a successful head coach when LSU hired him away from Michigan State. State finished the last season Saban coached there with their best record in 30 years. And he was very successful as a head coach in his one season at Toledo. He was also the defensive coordinator under Bill Belichick with the Browns. Pretty big difference from hiring O.

To the contrary. Saban lost to UAB and was it Louisiana Monroe? Or one of those. Obviously those 2 games don’t define him.

O was 3-21 in the SEC as a full time head coach prior to this season . That wasn’t encouraging needless to say. Still ways away from knowing if he is going to win something of note, but at least we know he is a better coach now than before.

1977 & 1983 they are NC by winning their bowl game, undefeated going into each under Fred Akers.

1990 they need a bunch of breaks but had a shot at NC with a win under David McWilliams.

Second worst long run in program history but ‘77-‘97 had some top 5/10 final rankings & conf championships and 2 teams that had the NC trophy in one hand.

Spare tOSU, OU and Bama.. few teams haven’t had at least 2 ugly stretches of bad spots on their resume.

There is a reason Texas is considered 7/8th best program ever. The money, history, indirect resources aren’t going away.

Bout 10 programs that with the right guy or even close are locks to be NC contenders within 24 mos of said HC hitting campus.

We found out last year that LSU isn't very sought after. I don't think it has anything to do with LSU itself either.

The things that hurt LSU:

1) we just fired a coach that won 75% of his games. It shows an incoming coach that the expectations are really high.

2)we have to play Bama every year and our fanbase expects to win some of those games. I think this one hurts all the SEC schools. Up and comers don't want to be directly compared to Saban.

3) Texas (abd their money) had a job opening at the same time.
