Curious...what were Orgeron's issues with Canada? Looks like he's given the keys of the offense to Brady and left him alone but didn't do the same for Canada. Read an article on Canada a month or so ago and some former LSU offensive players praised his offensive mind...just wondering what the issue might have been...
I think it was more of a personality clash than anything. Getting blasted by State and only putting up 7 points made O panic. It's pretty telling that Canada was constantly on the move from job to job and is currently unemployed.

Thanks, thought it might've been something like that. Still wonder why Canada doesn't have a job now; the dude put up a combined 84 points in consecutive seasons with different teams against Brent Venables' defense at Clemson. In hindsight, seems we could've sure used him in last year's CFP championship game...

Here are the remarks by some of the LSU players about him (from an SI article) that I found interesting:

Several of Canada’s former players spoke to SI for this story, openly discussing their ex-coordinator. “We all enjoyed playing for him,” says former LSU center Will Clapp, now a lineman with the Saints. “I would have thought he’d have a job. His offenses have always been good. What happened at LSU… that kind of… he has this perception of being hard to work with. I never thought as a player that he was difficult to work with.” Clapp points to LSU’s performance that year against Alabama. The Tigers ran for more yards in that single meeting with the Tide (151) than they did in 2015, 2016 and 2018 combined. “First time Alabama couldn’t figure out our offense,” Clapp says.

Former LSU guard Garrett Brumfield called Canada “a breath of fresh air” and described his offense as “dummy proof,” hard to defend but easy to learn. “I understand how people could have thought that some of the motions and shifts were smoke and mirrors,” says Brumfield, now with the Steelers, “but I think a good bit of it worked. I thought that offense was only going to get better.”

Saban has kind of blinded everyone on what are realistic expectations.

All coaches are going to have fluctuations based on opponents and natural cycle of their teams. Next year without a very good Sr QB and several NFL departures it's very likely LSU won't be as good; but should be strong and the way he is recruiting maybe he can field another top 5 type team soon. That's ambitious but realistic. Bama with the best coach of all times has fielded a top 3 team just about every season, but expecting that every year isn’t very realistic.

In his third full season Orgeron has been increasing the level of his teams. This year he has a legit contender and a #2 ranking at the half way point. Several SEC fan bases have never even seen their programs at that position even once in their lifetime; and they never will.

Having said that it’s the coach AND the program. LSU is a proven winner with elite talent in its surrounding and Orgeron is doing a good job. He would not have this level of successes at a mediocre program like say an NC State or a Texas A&M.

I never understand the college football fan mentality. It is weird how narratives are created and stick to people. Why hire a head coach to do head coach things if he is going to butt his nose in details rightfully reserved for the coordinators?

O retained Aranda, hired Ensminger and Brady and let them coach. That is all on O for good or bad. I do not see Nick Saban out there calling plays, does that mean it is actually his coordinators "getting it done."

t was a 57 yard kick on the road in a hostile environment

That was just a bad fricking call.

If they would have made the two easy ones they tried earlier in the game, they would have won and wouldn't have needed a desperation kick that led to the kick six.

That's really tough to say right. O has so many connections around college football and the NFL that he can pretty much call someone on any staff, college or NFL, to gauge interest. And if he starts doing stuff like finding the Joe Brady's of the world and becomes a feeder for those types of coaches then he can absolutely be set up for long term success. Who wouldn't want to coach at LSU right now?

Well, if he finishes the job and gets a couple years of high success it'll certainly help that narrative. I have no doubt O is well liked, but I suspect there are still people who would be reluctant to throw their future success at his feet.

But it wouldn't be hard to change minds if he can bring LSU to the top and keep them here for a season or two.

Yea does a good job, letting the coaches do there job. Malzahn should try it out

Malzhan has flip flopped worse than a politician. He needs to step away and let Lashey run the offense and game plan.....No, He needs to get back to his true love and be a coach and run the offense with Lashley to help.....No, He needs to step away and let Lindsey run the offense and implement his passing schemes.....Hell Naw! HE will be the OC all by himself, and let Dillingham to coach QBs.

How he uses his staff to get the job done is his choice

Right now and it could change rapidly he is getting the job done

A: I don't need a head coach to be an x's and o's genius if he surrounds himself with the right staff.

B: if T-Bob or Bobby say something, I'm typically gonna disagree bc those 2 are nothing more than loud mouth idiots.

Kind of an a-hole comment coming from anyone, but coming from a State fan is just...hmmm...

He is not a state fan. He's a Mizzou fan that has been changing his logo to LSU's opponent each week. He must really love Mizzou.

Completely agree. The one guy that baffles me and how his name still comes up when jobs are open is Kiffen. The narrative is he is some kind of genius and will one day be an great head coach despite ample evidence to the contrary. He has not only mostly failed at his HC gigs, he is despised at every stop he's been, and not just because of bad results.

He is a good OC for sure, though his time at USC and at Bama he had elite talent to work with.

It's true, but all good CEO's hire smarter people to make themselves look good. That's why they're the boss.
