I read a quote once by Bear Bryant. It was something like "If my assistant coaches aren't smarter than me, I don't need them."
Orgeron's job is to make sure the team is stocked with good players and to make sure he has the right staff to coach them up. He's done his job well in both regards.

This^^. I don't know who hired Aranda but it wasn't O. Doubt he hired Brady either. My guess is big money boosters and the AD. He's a big dumb ape that has never been a coordinator, but he understands his limitations and finally has his ego in check, which is better than a lot of HC's out there.

If you personally don't think the guy is wrong then name all the current head coaches that excel at all these things.

If any LSU fan is being honest they’d rather lose their HC than their passing game coordinator.
Before this year, O was a dipshit that they couldn’t believe actually got the job.
Again though, I give him credit for simply getting out of the way. A lot of much better coaches have failed at this.

Some great head coaches are great Xs and Os guys. Saban was a very gifted DC as an example. All of them eventually had to take a step back and let their Coordinators carry most of the game day load.
It is damn hard to call all the offensive plays, for instance, and still provide the over all leadership that a team requires.
Is Coach O a brilliant game day coach? No. But he doesn't have to be. He needs to make the correct strategic decisions (go for it on 4th, back off a little bit on coverage) and prepare his team for the game. So far he's managed to do that.
He deserves credit for changing his game plan mid stream. It is a rare coach that can abandon what got them there and try something new. Bryant abandoned his pro style attack and went with the wishbone. Saban added tempo and the RPO to his offense.

Let's set the record on this now. Ed Orgeron is a great motivator and recruiter. He deserves a lot of credit for LSU's success. But, when it come to on-field coaching, Dave Aranda and Joe Brady are the guys that are getting it done. #LSU” - John Hayes
How’s this different then any HC that isn’t the DC or OC? Take orgeron/LSU out and insert Saban/bama.. dabo/Clemson.... kiffin/locksley/Pruitt/smart were calling the plays and responsible for on field results.
Odd knock on a coach that can be applied to damn near all. But who hired the assistants? Just like a CEO of a business, you’re responsible for hiring the right people to run day to day operations to drives success. Odd af knock

Les Miles would never have gotten Joe Burrow OR Joe Brady, and we definitely would not be averaging 52 PPG under him.
O found a way to turn LSU into an offensive juggernaut in a single year.

The team is extremely disciplined, that comes from Coach O.

I personally wanted Mullen or Coach O... Not a fan of Mullen's shitty personality, but he can flat out coach IMO. I woulda been disgusted with Herman or Jimbo. Yes I am very pleased that Coach O put his ego aside for the betterment of LSU football

As has been said many a time, being a good leader means finding people who are better at their jobs than you are, giving them what they need to succeed, and then getting out of their way and letting them do their job.

In game coaching, I don't think he's as involved as a lot of coaches. During the week though, he's the one that changed the emphasis to more film study, the style of practices to reduce fatigue over the course of the season and he obviously adds input during the coaches meetings. He made the push to hire more off field assistants to break down film and match the staffs that Bama and tOSU have. When tackling was an issue early on he mentioned in the presser and said he had specific drills he was going to add to practice and it looks like tacking has improved significantly.
Probably the biggest thing is the team is molded in his vision of what he wanted defensively and offensively. He may not have the skill set to do it himself, but he found the guys that could which is what a CEO does. It hasn't been smooth with the Canada mess and using Ensminger as an essential interim, but he's got what he wants so tip of the cap to the guy. He's impressed the hell out of me.

Isnt that what he said he would do?

Saban still hasnt fixed his kicking game woes. This goes back to lsu years

When you think about it, its pretty amazing that 2 years ago people (including LSU fans) were joking that O's buyout should've been a gift card to Raisin Cane's and here we are talking about how good of an HC he is.
Oregon could fall on his face once Aranda and some other coaches shuffle out, but its hard to argue with the results so far.

I like that they are arguing about why LSU is winning. Better than arguing about losing ...

And with that statement you lost any credibility on this subject. Go research it and come back informed.

Yeah, that has really stopped him from being successful.

Really, cause we finished #6 last season. How's Moorhead working out for you?

By any measure, Coach O is doing a fantastic job. To say anything less would be disingenuous. The guy is killing it on all fronts. He is dumb like a fox. He doesn't pretend to be good at all things like Gus has done in the past (and maybe still), O knows what he's good at, and delegates the rest. Mark of a true leader.
