R.I..P. coach. The segments he and Stallings used to do on Finebaum were something else.

It was either Eric Ramsey's sorry arse or Terry Bowden.

Posted this on SOG’s post, but wanted to get it out to all...

As a young Bama fan in the 70s and 80s I “hated” him and Auburn. But not really. It was youthful rivalry trash talking. I learned to love and respect him the more I matured, the more I knew about him and that Coach Bryant loved him. If Bear Bryant loved him like a son, that’s good enough for me. When I lived in Decatur AL, I used to listen to him talk football for 2 hours a week on Wes Neighbors’ radio show. He could recall specific play calls, game situations, players and scores from 45-50 years ago. Some of his best stories were from when he was at East Carolina. Fascinating. The man knew more about Bryant and Bama football history than most Bama fans. One of the few true legends of the SEC. RIP, coach.

I believe that was the '64 Sugar Bowl we played against Ole Miss. Somehow we still managed to win without him.

I know a man that played on that Ole Miss team pretty well. He was telling me about it one time. Talked about how they were so disappointed that they weren’t going to get hit Namath. And how cold it was. I kind of thought he was full of shite about the cold. I mean New Orleans gets chilly, but he was talking snow and the field being frozen... I looked it up. Dec 30, 1963 it snowed 5 inches in New Orleans.

RIP Coach and War Eagle!

Thoughts and prayers for his family and friends.

They don't make them like him anymore and there are very few of his ilk left. It's a sad day.

Sad to hear this. I stayed at his farm and attended a wedding there. He was up every day at dawn working. The man that most reminded me of my paw paw.

One of those OG Goats that I could listen to for hours.

The man forgot more about football than I'll ever know.

RIP, Coach.

We had my Daughter's wedding at his place outside Auburn. It is a beautiful place and was a beautiful wedding. Coach was there for the Friday night party and the wedding. He was great and have some great pictures of him with everyone, especially my Daughter. Tough day for us.

Some may not know that Pat was one hell of a player back in the day at UGA.

"Fran Tarkenton, a Georgia teammate and Pro Football Hall of Famer, said he has "lost one of the best friends I have ever had." "I never played with a greater football player than Pat Dye"

My favorite of Dye was one day on Finebaum he went off on Charlie Weis the one year he was OC at Florida. They showed the clip of Weis sitting on the cooler during the game. Dye went off about what a bad message it sent...and then concluded by saying...

"doesn't help when your arse is 3 ax handles wide."

I laughed until I cried....
