Chips are down: Is there a fired coach you once hated but look back more fondly now?

Spurrier.

I hated him a lot less after he retired. He was a whiney bitch a lot, but after that went away and he wasn't under stress of the job taking jabs at other programs in his snide ways... i really liked him.

I hated playing against him...but the SEC was so much more interesting to watch with Steve Spurrier on a sideline.

Never hated him. He was too nice a guy to hate. Did we want him to continue being our HC? No.

I went back and watched some old Les Miles games and felt the old frustrations come rolling back.

Les Miles was the one I loved and hated at the same time. He fit right in at LSU and Baton Rouge and his teams were usually tough as frick, but when we had the ball I wanted to punch the wall every single time.

Looking back, I miss those Miles-coached teams. Sure we pissed away at least 2 additional titles because of his stubbornness but those were usually some fun seasons.

Poor bastard doesn't know his arse from a hole in the ground nowadays though

Houston Nutt. He was despised by most of the fanbase and I do think it was time to move on, but 2012 onward, in hindsight, has made me much more aware of what a solid job he actually did. He'd have clunkers against bad teams and then pull off an insane upset, it was definitely frustrating, but he never fielded a team that would go Ofer in conference (at least at Arkansas).

A little less "He wasn't so bad" and a little more "He probably did about as well as he could with the limitations placed upon him." for Matt Luke. He made a huge mistake in retaining Wesley McGriff for year 2 but I know as the interim, he told the entire staff he'd retain them if they helped him get the HC job. Thought he made a great DC hire after that but the sanctions had caught up to the team at that point.

Not sure a coach has ever mailed it in as much as Houston did for the 2nd half of his Ole Miss tenure. That man got paid and straight up quit trying. The 2011 season was Chad Morris at Arkansas bad.

I don't think "fondly" of any coaches that used to be at a rival so can't answer that.
As for UGA we have only had 5 coaches the last 60 years so there's not many to choose from. I was a bit young when Goff was fired but even if I was older I don't think I would hate him, he was simply in over his head and shouldn't have been hired to begin with. Absolutely nothing negative whatsoever to say about Donnan and Richt.

I didn't hate him but I miss Coach O blundering along the sidelines. And I don't say that as an insult. We need more coaches that look like they'd kill and eat the opposing HC during the post game handshake.

Coach O

Ole Miss fans never really have hated Orgeron. It’s irritating he pissed away so much NFL talent including a hall of famer but that’s about it. Nobody his entire time here ever questioned his work ethic and want to be successful. He wanted it so much that it was a detriment to him because he would try to be involved in everything instead of delegating. He’s even admitted to that in interviews.

He had our players doing full contact practices the morning of games sometimes.

He’s the sole reason Ole Miss was brought out of our dark ages from the 70s-early 2000’s. Without him coming in and totally rebuilding our recruiting department, strategy and getting boosters to pull one direction, we wouldn’t be anywhere near where we are today.

By far my least favorite Ole Miss coach of all time. He did get some mileage out of Orgeron’s recruits though.
