It was the stereotypical Mike Leach season. Big wins, head scratching losses, lost to the in-state rival, still going to end up with 7-8 wins. He has made a career off seasons like this one.

I do think State has the potential to be really good next year, but they were too inconsistent this year to be anything more than the 7-5 team that they were.

State lost to Memphis and yet was somehow still an offensive meltdown against Ole Miss away from finishing second in the West.

100% on brand for Mike Leach.

I'm happy overall and feel like we're moving in the right direction for the first time in some time. Excited to see what this offense will look like with Heupel's guys in here and a full roster again.

Offensive stat comparison between 2020 and 2021 pre bowl game are something I would have never imagined seeing:

Scoring Offense:
2020: 108th
2021: 9th

Total offense:
2020: 102nd
2021: 16th

Huepel has done a great job with one of the worst situations in the country. I'm happy for him.

These are mind-blowing stats. I was pretty neutral about the hire. TBH, I was pretty damned apathetic as the final days of Pruitt simply sucked the life out of me and my fandom. I didn't pay a bit of attention to CJH's presser, didn't watch the Spring game, and wondered if I'd ever care about our team again.

Closer to the season, I wanted to watch but still didn't think we'd even win 5. Too many losses depth wise and too many problems.

I honestly can't believe the difference a coach makes. A 1st year coach has won 7 games in year 1 only 5 times in our history (before now Kiffin was the last one) and Heupel is the only one that's done it coming off a 3 win season.

CJH has done an amazing job. Not only is the team winning, it's fun to watch. And it hadn't been fun in a long damn time.

We suck, but we managed to suck less than most of our fans predicted. But then we all came crashing down via the shutout to Clemson. Weird tasting 6-6 when I predicted 4-8 and most didn't predict much better.

Think a lot of us would've traded a 4-8 or 5-7 type record but with a win over Clemson and the prospect of no bowl.

It sucked. Glad it is finally over. Cannot wait to see who our new head coach is.

We played good in a few games, had two awful games where we didn't compete at all, but overall ended up where we expected to.

Badie and Mevis don't get enough credit. Our defense couldn't have played any worse the first 2/3rds of the season. Our QB regression was the worst we have seen at Mizzou in the last 25 years. Play calling was on par with our defense. Recruiting has been more entertaining than our games. We thankfully salvaged the season beating Florida and getting bowl eligible.

Not happy at all with 6-6 and we left 3-4 games on the table we should have won, but I can see some fight in the guys, development of players (which is huge) and know Harsin is focusing on building a new culture from the inside out. I am anxious to see how this develops from this point forward. I am behind Harsin 100% despite some of the fans who are not, and that's okay that they aren't.

I want consistent long term success vs an awesome year followed by several mediocre years.

Mullen credit for one thing though, he is pretty loyal to his coaches and players. He basically fell on the sword rather than fire assistant coaches and play underclassmen.

He does this to a fault though. It cost him games at MSU too

An improvement from last year. There is hope

Special teams are awful and need a lot of work if we want a shot at 9+ wins next year. A reliable kicker and we go 10-2 this year but instead we went 7-5

Another 9-3 season and a winning record in the conference, 5-3.

Coach Stoops is earning his money.

There is a word for that type of "loyalty," stupid. Mullen's job was to find the best of the best and put the best product on the sideline and field.

I agree somewhat, but in a business that doesn't really have a lot of loyalty, it is nice to see some. I would think with the rate of turnover of assistants at Bama, it would be appreciated as well. It's kind of like the old alumni getting pushed out because of the new money coming into a program. There is a fine line to walk.

Let us know about Mullen's loyalty when he has 3 (THREE) previous staffers ranked right along side him in CFP's rankings at any point in his career.

11-1 after replacing the entire offensive staff and offense outside of RG and LT and Metchie is a great season for this team. Fans should be able to appreciate what Saban has done instead of complaining we didn’t blow people out. Truth is Bama isn’t 20 points better than anyone in the sec outside of maybe Vanderbilt. What this team did against both Mississippi schools was amazing.

The offense played well above my expectations this season, Oline has been a damn sieve and needs to be addressed immediately. The defense has consistently been inconsistent most of the season.

I think this team grew up a ton in JHS Saturday night, they nutted it out and finished the job. A regular season at 11-1 & headed back to ATL feels good.

We had young players that didn't develop, offense that became disjointed, defense that improved as the year went on, and injuries to our running game. Outside of the offensive line that was about it, and when I say "offensive" I mean it

It was underwhelming, but I do think Drinkwitz is building a solid program.

On the positive notes:

1. Our recruiting continues to be monumentally good by Mizzou standards and there was excellent play from a lot of our true freshman in Drink's first class.

2. The team, and especially the rush defense, improved significantly as the season progressed. It gives me some faith in Drink and our DC Wilks that they can make some adjustments: the ypc we surrendered during the first half of the season was entirely unacceptable, over 6.5 ypc, but did improve a lot in our games against South Carolina (they had just 1.6 ypc), Florida (2.4) and Arkansas (4.9).

3. Badie was phenomenal and he is going to be fun to watch on Sundays. I do feel like we wasted his brilliant season a bit with a very porous defense and weak passing game to complement him.

4. The Thicker Kicker, best boot I've ever seen at Mizzou.

And the not-so-positive:

1. Bazelak does not appear to have the tools to be our starting QB for another season. He is not terrible, but his lack of mobility and inability to make medium to long range passes is extremely limiting for our offense. if we didn't have an RB like Badie that forced defenses to always overcompensate for the running game, I think this season would have been quite painful from a QB-play perspective.

2. Our offensive line is undersized and it showed, especially against teams like Georgia and Tennessee. You'll see for instance, Badie's lack of rushing yards in those games - it was almost entirely because we were dominated at the line of scrimmage and were forced to play to the flats/set-up bubble screens to try to move the ball. Fortunately, Drink has landed six very solid OL recruits between the 2021 and 2022 classes, but it will take some time for those boys to develop. This area has to be a transfer portal focus.

3. Our secondary lacks lateral quickness and frequently are caught out of position. I noticed time and time again that our opponents were almost guaranteed a free 10+ yards if they just swing the ball or throw to the flat. I am sure that this is in part due to our inability to stop the run, especially during the first part of the season, forcing our secondary to over-focus on the run and leaving these areas wide open.

4. The Boston College, Tennessee, and Arkansas game were unacceptable and embarrassing. On the former, we should not lose to Boston College. Ever. Even if it was a true road game early in the season. As for Tennessee, it's not that we should expect to beat them the majority of the time, but they blew us out like it was their 1998 team. We were so horribly outmatched that it was hard to watch. And against Arkansas, we had too many drive-stopping penalties and blown-coverages on defense. Stupid mistakes, right from the start Bazelak overthrew the most wide open receiver I have ever seen. It should have been a TD, but instead we played on our back heels the entire game.
